Everything was going just fine. Nothing could have gone wrong but we have terrible luck. The water rippled. And with every passing second they became larger and larger until grand waves, taller than most buildings, sent us flying to the shore. We were a little groggy when we got up, but when we stood we looked around our surroundings for what could have caused those waves. The once calm waters were raging, with a large whirlpool forming in the middle of the lake. Cyel ran to get our equipment while I observed the situation. A loud growl echoed from within the center of the lake. From within the whirlpool. The creature's cry was loud enough that it shook the ground and caused the nearby foliage to tremble, with some trees collapsing mere inches away from me. And then, just like that, the water was calm again.
Cyel returned with our equipment, having already dried off and put on her robes. I dried off and equipped my armor, sword and shield, preparing for the worst. It wasn't long until me and Cyel got bored of waiting for whatever it was to come out of the water. We thought that leaving it be for the time being would be the best course of action. We stealthily returned to our camp and rested for the remainder of the night.
When we awoke in the morning, the whole landscape had seemingly changed. The tall trees that surrounded us were now lying next to us. The sky was neither the star filled vantablack canvas nor the bright sunny day from yesterday. It was cloudy and foggy. Visibility was at an all time low and I could only see a few feet in front of me. Cyel and Purrcy were nowhere to be found either. I called out to them in hopes of finding them and to no avail. I packed up and set out to find them.
Traversing across the fallen greenery, I reached the lake, which I imagined would be their first stop, especially Cyel's after last night's incident. I tried looking around through the fog for them and called out their names once more. I got no response. I tried again and again and again. Nothing. I was beginning to worry. I walked along the coast in hopes of at least finding them, even if they weren't in the state I would have wanted to be in. I heard movement in the water and I ran towards it. I was soaked when a large wave of water came splashing my way.
I shook the water off me and wiped my eyes to see a dark silhouette standing in front of me within the fog. It looked to be a snake, so I paid no attention to it and continued to walk. I felt it following me so I looked back to see that it was somehow growing. I was startled by the sight and turned around to face the growing creature. I observed it more and noticed that it wasn't actually growing. It was simply revealing it's two other heads. It was a hydra. 'Great...' I thought.
It leaned over to me and simply observed me, all three heads surrounding me in curiosity. I didn't move a muscle. I just observed back at the large beast, waiting for it to make the first move. It stopped for a moment and all three heads stood in front of me. The three screeched altogether. I wiped the repugnant saliva off my face.
"You know, that wasn't very nice of you guys to do," I jokingly said to the 3 headed beast."You're going to have to pay for that."
I backed up and prepared for my onslaught. I moved and practically vanished from sight of the hydra. I circled the snake and looked for weak points on the beast. My vision suddenly dimmed. Everything became a dark shade of blue and I saw a line of light form in front of me. The trail led to one of the snake head. I leapt up to align myself with the creature and I carefully followed the line with my blade. Everything moved slowly, it was almost as if time itself had stopped.
As my blade traverse along the path, so did I, with very cautious movement. It wasn't long until my blade met its target and it sliced through it's skin. Although it's skin is as hard as steel, my blade made with it with ease, and just like that, it had lost it's head and only two remained now. My state of trance had ended and everything returned to their original shade. I landed and looked up to see the writhing [now two headed] hydra. I had hurt the beast well, now it was time to end it. I readied my blade and ran towards it. It screeched at me and I shouted right back at it. There was no way in hell that I was going to lose here, I had to make it fear me.
