Chapter Seven: Zoey
I watched Mr. Perry with high regard as he glided across the tile floor. Mr. Perry, my math teacher, was possibly the greatest teacher to roam the earth. Was he hot? No, not even close. Was he very smart? Not really. But he was the most amazing; he knew exactly what to do to get kid’s attention. If he had to cuss or berate someone to get them educated, so be it.
He stood 6’7 and skinny as a wafer, he was the definition of awkward. His plaid bow ties and tucked in button downs didn’t help much either, but without him I would be failing geometry.
“Johnny,” he snapped. “You’re a good looking kid, I know you probably have a girlfriend but if I see you texting her one more freakin’ time I’m going to take your phone and flush it down my toilet.”
I snickered as his cheeks turned red and shoved his phone into his pocket. I believe it’s obvious who he was texting.
With a heavy sigh, he returns to his lesson. I try my best to listen but it’s difficult. As Ally says, when Zoey is in her little world, you can’t get Zoey out. In my own little world, Zoey Reynolds was a world famous fashion designer; not a nerdy little girl in high school. I smiled dreamily to myself; college was when my dream would-
“I’m sorry to interrupt your daydream Zoey but I have a lesson to teach, I’d appreciate it if you would listen.”
It was my turn for my cheeks to turn red. I blushed and looked down at my lap. A few people dared to chuckle but the loudest was Johnny who belted out a loud, obnoxious laugh. I rolled my eyes, deciding to let this one go. Next time, Johnny was gonna get it.

“Alright people, what are we doing this weekend?” Ally asked in a demanding way. We sat around the wood wire picnic table at Sonic, the closest fast food place to school. We didn’t come here much, mainly because the food isn’t the best, but we always ate here after school when we need a “meeting”. Our meetings pretty much consisted of either gossiping or plans for the weekend. After all, who would we hang out with besides each other? We thought about in silence for a couple minutes, we’ve pretty much run the town thin on activities to do. However, our amazing idea came from the one and only Lizzy, who was extremely amazing at idea making.
“Let’s throw a party!” she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“At Zoey’s house!” Johnny added. We all looked at him like he was crazy, why my house? When we continued to stare at him like he was crazy, he grinned and explained himself. “Well I’ve been thinking-“
“That’s a shocker…” Ally snickered quietly.
“Why not regain our status of being popular!” Johnny exclaimed loudly, drawing attention from nearby customers. “I mean, let’s destroy that skank Beth Jones!”
Ally nodded in agreement, a slight smile on her face. “That’s a great idea, Johnny! But they’re done with us, they won’t listen to us.” Both their gazes settled on Riley and I, I then realized they had planned this. Rather perfectly actually.
Johnny grinned his stupid smile, “You two would be perfect.”
And that ladies and gentlemen, is how I was nominated to be Miss Popularity.
