Chapter Ten: Riley

Although it was rather peaceful, seeing Ally so upset was depressing. She didn’t talk much for the whole week after her fight with Johnny. Like I said, it was peaceful but sad. Zoey drove her jeep through the rural part of California, over twisting roads and hills. I sat in the passenger seat next to her with Mace, Ally, and Lizzy in the back. We could actually hear the music before we saw the house.

Sam Leno’s house was totally packed and was practically bouncing off the ground. I almost went deaf from just walking in the door! Girls dirty danced like sluts with scumbag looking guys as LMFAO blasted through Sam’s speakers. “God,” I moaned, “This is a douche bag’s dream.”

Zoey lets out a little laugh. She quickly smiles at me before turning to her friend. “Hey, Ally,” she says.

I decide to ignore their conversation and let my eyes roam around the massive party. “Uh, Ally,” I say when I notice someone particular. I nod towards Johnny who stands with a red plastic cup, looking straight ahead sadly.

Ally looks up and her face falls, Beth Jones stands right next to him, her arms wrapped around his bicep. He finally notices us staring at him and quickly shrugs Beth off then scurries off into the crowd. Instead of standing there like an idiot, Ally regains her bravery. She puffs her chest out, stands up straighter, and announces, “I’m gonna go talk to that asshole.”

And with that, she’s off chasing him.

~Johnny~

I ducked into the kitchen, not in the mood to deal with any drama tonight. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very lucky.

“Can I talk to you?” Ally says demands angrily.

As much as I want to say, hell no, the words come out of my mouth without me being able to stop them. “Yeah,” I say hoarsely. I quietly follow her as she leads me outside and in front of the corn field that surrounds Sam’s house.

“Johnny,” she begins when we’re firmly standing on the soft dirt. “I’m sorry… You were right.”

What she says catches me so off guard, I wobble on my feet for a few seconds. “You what?”

She sighs and shifts on her feet, “I really like you Johnny. That’s why I kissed you,” her voice suddenly cracks and she looks at her feet. “I-I was scared that,” she stops and I realize she’s crying.

My heart does a little flip; I never fell out of love with Ally. I snort, who am I kidding? No one could! I place my hands on her face and wipe her tears away with my thumb, “I’m sorry too, I shouldn’t have acted like a jerk.”

Ally smiles up at me shyly, then devilishly. “If you can catch me,” she grins wider. “I’ll let you kiss me.”

“What?” I ask but she takes off into the corn field, giggling wildly. Running after her, I yell, “Puh-lease! I’m a lot faster than you!”

We continue chasing each other for a while under the moonlight. Eventually I chase her diwn and tackle her to the floor. With me on top of her, but careful not to crush her, and our faces a few centimeters apart, I smile at her, “I love you Ally.”

She blushes but says, “I love you, too.”
