Chapter Sixteen: Zoey

“You are number five on the ladder of popularity!” Ally squeals after she does some calculations.

Johnny punches the air next to me, “Hell yeah!”

Only a few weeks ago I had been at the bottom of the social ladder, now I was near the top. If I had to guess, it was probably because of Ryan. Anyone that would date him would become popular. I turned towards him and caught him grinning stupidly. Ah, who cares about smarts? When it comes down to it, it only matters if he treats you well.

The bell suddenly rang, signaling that lunch was now over. I waved goodbye to all my friends before skipping out of the cafeteria. My heart nearly burst out of my chest when I saw the two figures standing in the hallway.

                Lizzy and Beth Jones.

                “Now what?” Beth hisses.

“Zoey just reached rung number five.” Lizzy says in a hushed voice, “You better watch out!”

“Please, “Beth hisses, “She will never be number one.”

Lizzy opens her mouth to say something else but Beth cuts her off by walking off.

                “L-Lizzy,” I sob. “What are you…?”

“Zoey!” she jumps when she sees me, “It’s not what it looks like!”

I glare at her angrily before turning and running off. I have to find Ally, or Johnny, or even Riley! I just need a friend to confide in. Luck wasn’t working for me today because when I heard Ally giggle, I found her pressed against a wall making out with Johnny. I didn’t even bother with trying to find Riley; he wouldn’t listen to me anyways. Instead, I run off into the bathroom and burst into tears.

~Johnny~

Why is it that whenever I’m alone with Ally, some asshole has to come and screw it up. Whether it’s at school or even her house, someone comes barging in.

Just before we went into our ext class, I was able to grab her. I laughed and wrapped my arm around her waist, and pushed against the wall by the janitor’s closet.

“Johnny, “she giggled, “What are you doing?”

“Skipping class?” I snicker as I press my lips against hers. My arms slip around her waist, pulling her closer to me. Ducking down, I kiss her neck.

                “Johnny, stop!” she giggles.

                “Have you guys seen, Zoey?”

“Oh my god,” I groan angrily, “Are you freaking kidding me?

“Why?” Ally says still pressed between me and the wall.

“I-I’ve been telling everything you guys say to Beth Jones to become popular and she caught me.” Lizzy looked down sadly, “I-I’m sorry.”

Ally shoves me away, “What?” she yells.

“I-I’m sorry!” Lizzy begins to cry.

“Sorry my ass, what the hell is wrong with you!” she screams. “We were good to you. Get the hell away from us!”
