Layla's POV

The street was dark, misty, the sky showed nothing apart from a single star. We sat on the grass and stared at the sky, I loved this. I loved our relationship, Ash and I were just meant to be... I was almost certain of that... I gripped Ash's hand, smiling at him lovingly...

Suddenly, there was a bell sound coming from a device in Ash's pocket, a phone? He looked at the screen and let go of my hand, he jumped to his feet hastily. "What's wrong?" I asked him. He looked at me depressingly, shook his head and ran off into the distance. I looked around into the darkness, what had I done wrong? I tucked my knee's up and rested my head onto them. What did I do wrong this time? I felt a hand rest on my shoulder, "Ash?" I turned around only to see that It wasn't Ash. It was N, I shook him off my shoulder quickly and tried to get away but he grabbed me. "Look, Layla. I know we haven't had the best backgrounds, but please just hear me out," N smiled at me. We first met him a professor Oak's Pokemon camp, Jace introduced me to him. It was originally myself, Serena and Jace who hung out together, but Serena began sneaking away to meet up with Ash supposedly and during that time Jace took his first glance on N. It was in a demonstration, they were trying to demonstrate how to have a worthy battle, N was an ex camp member who agreed to stay for that week to help with demonstrations...

"Try as hard as you can you two, I know you can do it if you try your best," N cast out a Riolu and Zorua. All of the campers gasped, as they stared at N's nervous Pokemon,"Don't worry. You'll do great just fight as one and you will be fine!" Riolu and Zorua glanced back at N before assuming their battle positions. They're still nervous, be careful...

"Zorua! Use Night Daze!" N commanded his Riolu quickly after this, "Riolu , Use Nasty Plot!" The opposing trainer was a Gym Leader from Kalos called Valerie, her team for this battle consisted of a Mawile and Sylveon. I hadn't seen either of these pokemon before, Jace nudged me suddenly, "I have a bad feeling about this, his pokemon... They... they're not ready to face those pokemon," He whispered as he dragged me to the front row of children.  As we arrived at the front of the crowd I finally managed to get a good view of the boy, he was older than me, without a doubt. Maybe even older than Jace but not by too many years if any at all, I examined the boy's body language closely until I reached his eyes. I always have been able to read people, it was what I did. That's why my father wanted me on his team so badly, that's why everyone thought I was a freak, like one of those Hex Maniac girls you see talking to themselves in dark corners. I read the boy's thoughts and filtered them into my head slowly... I could now see his thoughts...

I'm far younger than Valerie, and only an orphan... Perhaps this will cause her to put her guard down, perhaps if I remain the innocent young boy that I look then maybe I'll be able to win...

I then switched my attention to Valerie, her eyes were determined. She was slightly harder to read but I managed to get into her head without too much trouble...

This boy... He is strong... He is weak... He loves the pokemon in which he battles with... However this boy does not see as a trainer, he sees more as a friend of all pokemon than a trainer. I fear this boy will fail, but it is part of my job as a Gym Leader to teach the youths of the world to fall... To fall and get back up again... So that is what must be done... And that is what I shall do... Fairy type pokemon are strong against dark and fighting type pokemon...

"Mawile, Sylveon  both of you use moonblast!" Suddenly the Mawile and Sylveon sent two pink orbs flying towards N's Riolu and Zorua,  as the orbs reached halfway they combined creating a bigger more powerful orb. Jace tugged on my arm and pointed to Riolu and Zorua, "C'mon Layla! You know what we've got to do," I nodded to him and we both jumped the hay barrier and leapt in the way of the pink orb. I can remember there being a bright pink light and from then on I could only remember black...
