Chapter Eleven

Joe's POV

The last week has consisted of hospitals, needles, doctors, crying, praying and the occasional sleep.

Having a baby in the hospital was one of the most frightening things that you could ever go through.

Watching my girlfriend cry over my daughters crib killed me inside.

Although the doctors said that she was recovering just fine and she should be released soon I couldn't help but feel empty inside over the fact that I couldn't help Aria.

If I could take her sickness away I would. If I could take it away and make her healthy and strong I would. But I can't so I have to be strong for Maddy and Aria and hope they don't realize how weak I've become.

The SDK boys have been here ever since the night we found out. It's so great to have supportive friends around.

Aria got a room upgrade because she's been staying there for so long.

There is one big bed and Aria's crib.

Maddy and I were about to lay down and watch TV.

"Hey Joe?" Maddy asked.

"Yeah babe?" I questioned, still stroking her arm.

"Do you love me?"

I looked down at her unsure of the meaning behind her question.

"I love you and Aria more than I've ever loved anything." I said simply. It rolled of my tongue so easily.

"Are you sure?" she pushed

"More than anything" I said and then kissed her on the forehead.

"So you're not mad at me?"

"Why would I be!?" I asked.

"Because I'm a mess. And I know you are too but you can't show it because I've been showing it too much." she sighed.

"I'd rather you let it out. Go to bed Madz." I kissed her forehead and she rolled over in the bed.

As soon as she was fast asleep, I crept into the bathroom and pulled the metallic silver blade from my box of q-tips and rolled up my sleeves.

The puffy red reminders of all the trauma I've been going through made me even more upset.

I traced my blade over the skin of my wrist four times before I felt the release I needed.

I bandaged them up and hid my blade again before before walking out, giving Aria a kiss and crawling into bed.

Sleep seemed to be the only time I could relax.
