daniel's p.o.v
After Joey and I got coffee and breakfast, we decided to walk around and window shop. The weather was nice and there wasn't much of a breeze, a perfect day for walking. Discretely I grabbed Joey's hand, closing my fingers with his. He looked down at our hands then smiled at me, beginning to swing our hands.
Putting his head on my shoulder, Joey leaned in to me. At one point he put so much of his weight on me that I nearly fell over. We just walked, swinging our hands and talking. As we were walking we passed a hair salon and Joey stopped.
"We need to go in there." he said.
"Why?" I asked. Grabbing the beanie on his head, he lifted it to show his hair. It was faded and a lot of his roots were showing. He tucked his hair back in and tightened his grip, dragging me in to the salon.
The lady at the front said, "How can I help you gentleman?"
"I was wondering how much it would cost to fix," Joey said and took his beanie off, "this." The lady looked cringed then looked down at her computer. She did some typing and kept looking up at Joey. The estimate she gave us made my stomach dropped. Looking disappointed Joey turned back.
It broke my heart to see him so sad and disappointed. Somehow I will get that for him. Joey headed for the car, his head hung low and his posture slumped. "I'll drive." I said to Joey, taking the car keys out of his pocket.
At the car I opened the door for Joey. Waiting for the cars to clear, I got in the car. Leaning the seat back a little, Joey closed his eyes. To maybe make him feel better, I decided to take him to scenic view.
~~~
I parked in the lot and looked over to Joey, who was sleeping. Shaking him lightly, I said his name quietly. He groaned, but opened his eyes. Looking out his window he saw the view and his face lit up.
Excitedly, Joey got out of the car and raced for the edge. Following him, I stood at the edge next to him. The view was gorgeous and it the water crashing against the rocks was cool. Stepping back a little, I took my phone out and checked the time.
The party was at nine and it was already four in the evening. "We better get back. We might hit traffic." I said. Taking one long look we headed back to the car. We hit traffic but made it back in time.
While we waited we watched YouTube videos. It ended up with us watching story time videos and when the last video finished, we had five minutes. I went to a mirror and fixed my hair while Joey made sure his hair was under his beanie.
The frat house it's located at wasn't to far from our dorms. We were two blocks away and you could hear the music and see the people crowded on the lawn. I had tried to get Joey to promise to drink responsibly and don't get wasted, but he only said he'd try. Last time he drank to much and I had to lead him back.
It was kind of disappointing and saddening to see him like that, but it never made me think any less of him. At this party my goal is to watch Joey and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid. I hate acting like the parent because I'd like to have some fun myself. Maybe if Joey can prove he can be responsible, I can relax a little.
~~~
To relax a little, I got a drink. Nothing strong, just to relax. Looking around I saw Joey just wandering with a drink in his hand, talking to people. Squeezing between people I headed for him. Reaching Joey I put a hand on the small of his back. He jumped slightly but turned to see me and relax.
"Are you having fun?" I asked Joey.
"Yeah." he said. "You?" I nodded. Joey drained his cup and threw it in the trash can. A junior came over and handed Joey a drink and offered me one but I declined. In the pit of my stomach I had a feeling something wasn't right.
I was right.
After drinking half of his drink, Joey started acting weird. He looked wrong. I don't know how to explain it. Next he began to sway and nearly fell over. Grabbing his arm, I led him out of the frat house.
Halfway back Joey had to stop and vomit in some bushes. It wasn't getting worse but it wasn't getting better. He was dragging his feet and it made it hard for me to walk him. Just at the dorms he gave up walking. I had to put him over my shoulder (with some difficulty) and carry him back to the dorm.
By now I know that the drink was spiked. Joey had been roofied. I don't know much about that so I don't know how much I'll be able to tell. Back in our dorm I put him on his bed, taking his shoes off and covering him. It looked like he was already asleep after just being put on his bed.
I got changed and got in to my bed, but I couldn't sleep. For a while I played on my phone but that didn't help. My final decision was to force myself to sleep. I closed my eye sand kept them closed and stayed still.
Finally, after at least thirty minutes, I fell asleep. But it wasn't a restful sleep. It was a fitful, restless sleep. My dreams were filled with nightmarish situations and impossible choices. It all felt so real.
With all my tossing and turning I fell off my bed. It was still dark and the time on my clock read three in the morning. Across the room Joey was sound asleep, one arm hanging off the bed. Getting off the floor, I got back in to bed. This time I fell asleep quicker, the rest of my sleep more restful.
