Even though Daniel and I didn't hold hands, we stood close. There was a stream of freshman heading to the orientation, so we followed them. People chattered around us but Daniel and I stayed silent. Some older students were lounging around outside, talking or smoking. Lately I've noticed a lot of people here do drugs.

The seats filled up quick, but I managed to find a seat next to Daniel. Slowly and cautiously Daniel hooked his pinky with mine. I looked at him, giving him a nervous smile. With Daniel next to me, my anxiety level lowered.

A woman walked on to stage, starting in to a boring speech I didn't pay much attention to. Some parts were important, but most of it was just different ways of saying "You'll have so  much fun here!". When it was over, the lady said to head outside and join a club.

People left as fast as they could, but Daniel and I stayed in the back. "Are you going to join a club?" I asked Daniel. He shrugged. Grabbing my arm he lightly pulled me to the tents the clubs had set up.

Not much appealed to me, but I found one that I liked. It was a film club, which perfectly went along with my major: flim making. There weren't many names on the sign-up sheet, so they were happy I joined. Looking around, I spotted Daniel at the photography club. That wasn't a big surprise to me, because his major is (of course) photography.

"Are you happy with your choice?" I asked, coming up behind Daniel. He jumped, turning around to glare at me. "Sorry." I said, even thought I wasn't. People were starting to carry around fliers, handing them out. Daniel and I each got one.

Looking over the flier, I saw it was for some parties going on at frat houses. It said it was a beginning of the year party, and that everyone was welcome. "Ooh, that sounds fun." I said. "Do you want to go with, Daniel?"

With a heavy sigh, he agreed. Grabbing his hand, I happily pulled him back to our dorm. In our dorm, Daniel took out his classes sheet and his notebooks, labeling them for each class. After that was done, he began to tidy up the room. "Why are you cleaning?" I asked.

"I don't like messes." he said. Straightening the picture on his bedside table, he collapsed on to his bed. "I'm bored. Classes don't start for two more days -which is crazy and a bit odd- so there really isn't much to do." The classes not starting for two more days was odd. An email was sent out, saying it was postponed.

Pulling my legs up under me, I began to think. I made a mental check list, and everything got checked off, except to watch movies. "Let's watch a movie?" I asked. "That will pass the time until the party."

Abruptly Daniel sat up. "That sounds good." Picking my computer up off the ground, I patted the spot next to me. Daniel shut off the lights and closed the shades then cuddled up next to me. We pulled a blanket over us then proceeded to look at the movies on Netflix. After some bickering we decided on WALL-E.

Every now and then I would check the time. We made it through two and a half movies before we got ready. I slid my laptop under my bed then got up to my wardrobe. There wasn't a big selection of colors, so I went with black skinny jeans, a gray tank top and my leather jacket.

Looking over at Daniel, I saw him buttoning up a short-sleeved shirt. It was red with tiny white polka-dots, and he had on tight fitting (I guess you could call them 'skinny') khakis. Honestly, that look fits him. "You look nice." I said.

"And you look like some emo kid." Daniel said jokingly. In the same joking manner, I looked at him with an "offended" expression. Walking over to me, he brushed some hair out of my face. "You look like a cute emo kid." He placed a kiss on my nose.

Not even bothering to retaliate, I pulled on my battered black Vans. I have a new pair, I just haven't been able to part with my old ones. Daniel went with the sneaker theme too, wearing some white converse.

"Let's go." I said. We (with some struggle) got our phones and room keys in our pockets. Daniel straightened up a picture on the wall then hurried to follow me out. On the back of my hand I had written the address.

It was quiet for a while until we neared the frat houses. The music could be heard from a few blocks away, and people were standing around with cups in their hands.  We neared the first frat house and people handed us some cups. I sniffed it, it smelled fine so I began to drink. Daniel discretely dumped his in a bush.

Daniel stayed near me, but wouldn't drink anything. I was having so much fun, I didn't realize how much I was drinking. Soon things became a blur, Daniel was the only one I remembered (to a certain point).

When the person handed me the drink, I had no intention of drinking it. I have no intention of drinking anything. Because Joey was going a bit crazy with the amount he was drinking, I made it my personal duty to watch him.

I watched as Joey slowly lost his sobriety. It was really a sad thing. Quite a few times I stopped a fight, and I pushed away drinks that I knew (and saw) were spiked. More than a few times he fell over, so I held him up. He said things, mostly stupid things.

As he got more drunk, his words became harsher. I knew he was wasted, but the words he said still hurt. When he was over the toilet puking, I still comforted him. He tried to drink more but I stopped him.

"Why are you ruining all the fun?" he asked drunkenly. "You're a fun sucker, and too much of a pussy to drink. If you didn't want to come, why don't you leave?" Those words hurt, but I pushed them away.

Joey stumbled around a bit more, until he passed out, falling to the ground. No one said or did anything, so I threw him over my shoulder and walked back to our dorm. It was a shame that he got like this. Some of his family were alcoholics and I am not going to let him turn in to one.

For the second night in a row, I had to carry Joey back to our dorm. This time I just dropped him on his bed. I was going to just leave alone, but his shirt had stuff on it. Out of his wardrobe I grabbed a random shirt. Pulling his old shirt over his head, I slid the new one on him. My fingers rested at the waist band of his jeans. Instead, I covered him and then changed and got in to my bed.

While I laid in bed, I prayed that this would not become normal. That I won't be dragging a drunk Joey back to our dorm.  I know he'll have an awful hangover, and hopefully that will stop him. And, of course, I'll end up taking care of him. But something inside me said that none of that will stop him.

Just please don't let that break apart our relationship.

this was a little rushed, but i got a sudden spark of creativity and had to use it before it went away.
