~Chapter Two~
The Journey to Rivendell
The next day Strider lead the company of four hobbits and two elf women into the Chetwood Forest just north of Bree. Merry, Pippin, Frodo, and Gwiliweth marched along close to Strider ahead into the gloomy overgrown forest while Sam followed behind leading "Bill" a scrawny pony, who is burdened with supplies. Medlinya traveled along beside Sam to keep him company as well as safe from any foul creatures who may attack.
"Where are you taking us?" Frodo questioned.
"Into the wild..." Strider answered simply.
Medlinya observed Frodo watch Strider uneasily as the man moves off into the cover of trees along with Gwiliweth close behind. Merry joins Frodo at his side. "How do, we know this Strider is a friend of Gandalf; let alone these women?" Merry whispered aside to Frodo.
"We have no choice then to trust them." The hobbit answered. Medlinya pretended not to listen as she strolled by the hobbits.
Sam came up behind holding the reins of the pony. "But where is he leading us?"
Strider stops in his tracks and casts a glance back at them. "To Rivendell, Master Gamgee... to the house of Elrond."
Sam smiled brightly and peered back to the pony with excitement. "Did you heard that, Bill? Rivendell! we're going to see the Elves!"
Medlinya smiled at Sam and patted his shoulder softly. The hobbit startlingly gazes up at her and catches her smile. He smiles back and the company continued on following Strider through the gloom of the forest.
The elf gazed down at Sam along the way through the forest. 'Why are you excited to see the Elves, Master Gamgee?'
The hobbit jumped in fright and stared up at Medlinya. "H-h-how did you do that?" he asked timorously.
She quickly raised her finger to her mouth to shush him and pointed to his mind. 'Only decently powerful elves can communicate to other races besides their own kind like this. I'm dreadfully sorry to have startled you.' Medlinya apologized sincerely.
'Ah, no no it's alright, Lady Magaga. I'm just not used to someone else talking in my head.' Sam responded uneasily.
Medlinya sighed at the name. 'My name isn't Magaga, Master Gamgee. It's a fake name just how Strider is. Please call me Medlinya. But only through your mind. My name is well known in the world and not in the good way.'
Sam eyed her suspiciously. 'Did you join with that Dark Lord? Or kill someone?'
Medlinya laughed in her mind, knowing that Sam could hear her. 'No. I did no such things. I have injured people, but not on purpose. I would never kill another being unless they are Orcs, Goblins, or any being that sparks danger or threat to people close to me.'
The hobbit absently nodded his head in understatement. 'Why do you never talk or take off your cloak?'
'I haven't been in the outside world in 2,870 years. A thousand of those years, I had Gwiliweth with me. This is a first time being outside of the Old Forest.' Medlinya spoke honestly.
Sam's face seemed suddenly surprised. 'The Old Forest? That forest hates strangers, how could you live among the woods for that long?'
'The forest wanted me there and it protected me willingly for a reason I'm sure you'll find out in time. But don't worry, it's nothing bad or to fret about. I am a friend. You can trust me as I trust you with my real name.' She expressed with pure honest. Her wise sapphire blue eyes met his loyal cornflower blue ones as Medlinya smiled genuinely at him. 'Now tell me about your excitement about seeing the Elves.'
