Home, finally

I got lost in the woods once.

It was once but time etched longer there.
I was looking for the sunlight,
The mysterious forest captured my attention,
A siren lulled me.
So I left the comfort of the sun and home,
For a mistaken adventure.

I followed that lullaby,
Through storms and puddles.
I got my white shoes black,
My dress ripped open.
My legs ached,
But I had to keep going as the shadow loomed over.
The cold air clawed my skin and suppressed my breaths,
Till I can only feel my bones.

It was tiring and dreadful,
Being stuck in that old wood.
Dangerous thoughts lurked around,
While hope was nowhere near.

I stopped to rest,
Finally accepting the fact that I could never escape.
All the lullabies led me nowhere,
More lost than ever.
Until a small ray of sunshine penetrates through the thick leaves,
And I almost brushed it off.

But it stayed with me,
Even when I tried to escape.
It led me to places,
Somewhere with less storms and puddles.
I gave it a chance and followed it through,
It made me smile as I could finally breathe fresh air again.
Wasn't long until I escaped the dark forest,
With cuts and bruises,
Bloods and agony.

To the green field,
The rich river,
And the warm sun.
Then I saw you,
Waiting there,
Smiling.

"I've been waiting for you," you said.

I took your hands,
And you never minded my rugged appearance.
You kept holding my hand,
And never letting go.

Finally, I am home.
