Chapter One.
Claire's POV.
I laid in a pool of blood and a pain in my side. I looked at the arrow in my side and gritted my teeth. As I grabbed the arrow, I felt more pain. It felt like a thousand daggers were stabbing me. I winced as I pulled the arrow out of my skin. I flopped back down on the ground and threw the arrow across the basement floor. Cooper let out a groan and I inched closer to him.
"Coop," I said out of breath. "You're going to be okay. We both are," I promised as I got closer to him, one hand on my aching side, the other hand dragging my body to my almost lifeless best friend. As I got to his side, I grabbed his hand in effort to take away some of the pain.
"Stop," he whispered, attempting to pull his hand away. "You're only hurting yourself more. I'm fine."
"I'll heal. You won't." I said grabbing his hand harder and taking the pain. It was horrible, the pain he was going through. I groaned, pulling myself up to sit next to him. I still had his hand in mine to comfort him. "You're going to be okay, Cooper." I said pulling him in for a hug.
We were locked down there for what felt like hours until Saunders ran down the steps to find Cooper and lying against the wall and the dead hunter in the corner. Cooper still had the three arrows in his stomach and my wound was healed. I had occasionally taken the pain from Cooper. I couldn't take the arrows out yet, that would put him in more pain.
Saunders walked in front of Cooper and grabbed one of the arrows. "Take his pain,'' was all he said before ripping the arrow out of his chest. I did as I was told after every arrow Saunders pulled out.
"You okay, kid?" Saunders asked me. I looked at him with disgust. How dare he ask me if I'm okay.
I stood up and wrapped one of Cooper's arms around my neck, "C'mon, bud. We're going to take you to Doc. He'll be able to help you."
I hoisted him up and Saunders went to his other side and wrapped his arm around his neck. we walked up the steps carefully. I looked around for Airgid and his disciples as I like to call them. We didn't see anyone so, we continued to walk until we heard a noise. Saunders pushed in my direction to a room. With my free hand, I opened the door and walked in swiftly with the boys behind me.
I looked around and noticed we were in the supply closet of the school. We set Cooper down and I grabbed some paper towel and held it to his wounds. I looked at his sweat-drenched face. You could barely see his bright blue eyes because his eyelids were closely hiding them. His black hair was drenched in a mixture of blood and sweat.
"There's not enough time to get him to Doc. He'll die before we do," Saunders quietly said looking at us sitting on the ground. Tears were filling my eyes. This was all my fault.
"What are we going to do?" I whispered letting tears fall down my cheeks. He gave me a look and I knew exactly what he was thinking. "No," I said, standing up. "You can't. What if it kills him!" I whispered louder.
"He'll die anyways. Listen to his heartbeat. It's slowing down every second," he whispered coming a bit closer to us.
I shook my head vigorously, "You can't. He doesn't deserve to be like us! He doesn't deserve the urge to kill every little thing that makes him mad.He doesn't deserve to live like us. Scared every second of-" he cut me off.
"He's already scared that they'll come for you. Let me help him," he grabbed my hand from Cooper's chest. He grabbed Cooper's arm and brought it up to his face. His eyes closed and when they opened up again they were a bright red colour. As he bit down on Cooper's arm, I covered his mouth so his screams weren't too loud.
