a dream
heavy rain splatters like blood
wind rips through the trees
bitter cold seeps into your bones
someone gets up off their knees
the church pews are all rotten
old white birch filled with decay
silent prayers long forgotten
a sinking feeling of dismay
one lone candle, brightly burning
the moon nowhere to be found
either a blessing or a warning
of creatures hiding all around
just as you reach the light
darkness trailing from behind
the flame flickers out of sight
as you've finally lost your mind
