 O Great Eagle

O great glass-eyed eagle

Over vast lands you soar

Over seas and oceans

And deserts and snow-robed peaks.

O great glass-eyed eagle

Empires rise and fall beneath you

Castles crumble to dust and cottages grow into forts;

You blow away the sands of time

With a single beat of your wings.

O great glass-eyed eagle,

People awe at your sight,

Kings and peasants alike

Poets sing of your magnificence;

Artists portray you in a hundred shades.

But your cries of sweet melancholy,

Makes me wonder...

Could you ever find any joy in it,

O great blind-eyed eagle?
