Heard Mentality

"Did your hear?!"

"No! What did you?"

"He did that awful thing!"

"They say they saw it for themselves!"

"My God, it must be true!"

I've seen those posts, time and again,

From both sides of the aisle.

I've burned myself, a time or three,

From triggers I let rile.

We've all been caught by shock headlines

That shape our world outlook.

But often don't read long enough

To maybe spit the hook.

One can't be wise unless one's lived

A life, long fraught with falls.

But with each fall, a lesson's learned,

Though pride may feel the galls.

I think that persons can be wise

And generous of heart.

But people, as a group, can flame

And tear their world apart.

This man of years, who's words you read,

Suggests another way.

Make those who spew their bile out loud,

Give proof of what they say.
