My head was spinning, that was the most unexpected conversation I think I was ever going to have this year, and I still wasn't quite sure how I felt about the whole thing. I tried to push it to the back of my mind as I headed on up the stairs to the bathroom. Half of me wanted to find Erica and unload this new piece of information, but the other half of me wanted to find Marshall. But right now, I needed to have a few minutes to sort my head out. If I ever could now...

..............

"Oh hey sweetie, having a good night?" a voice made me look up at the figure that had just walked into the bathroom. "You will not believe the conversation I've just had" I said to Erica, still leaning on the counter top with my palms. She looked amused, then turning to the stall to do her business. "With Marshall?" she asked hopefully, whispering a little in case someone walked in during our gossip. I shook my head even though she couldn't see me, "I haven't even spoken to him yet" I said, laughing a little. Erica frowned, coming back out of the stall. "why the hell not?!" she asked me, walking over to the sink. "I bumped into some one" I told her, "oh?" she asked, raising her eyebrow at me, but before I had a chance to say any more, the two girls from earlier in the night burst into the room.

"I can't believe Eminem is leaving with her" we heard one of them say. Me and Erica shot a look at each other, "I know right, talk about trailer trash" the second one scoffed. "Excuse me, who is this?" Erica asked them. They looked at us and scowled, "the dark haired piece of skirt that he just left with" they answered us, suddenly my world felt like it was about to fall apart. Erica looked at me, pure horror in her eyes; she grabbed my hand and yanked me out of the bathroom and out of the club.

..........................

My world was a sudden haze as I felt Erica pulling me around, searching for confirmation that what the girls had told us was untrue, but as we stood in front of the club, we found Marshall's crew milling around waiting to climb into a couple of cars that had just pulled up. My heart was beating hard in my throat as I searched the crowd with my eyes, as Erica did too, both of us seeing him standing there across the street from me, surrounded by his guys, his head hung low, with, with her. "I feel like I'm gonna throw up" I murmured to Erica. She never said anything, but kept her eyes fixed on him. I couldn't look any longer, I had to turn away.

As I moved my body away from subjecting myself to the sight across the road, a figure appeared in my view. "Sweetie...." his soft deep voice seemed like a comfort right now. I heard heels scrape along the ground and Erica was turned facing the voice too. "Zak?" she questioned, I still hadn't had chance to tell her what had happened earlier. "Hey Erica" he said a little sheepishly, he was a little scared of her, and knew she still wanted to kick his ass. But then he looked back at me, I saw that look in his eyes, which right now I didn't want to see, obviously seeing what we had. I just wanted to leave, "c'mon sweetie" he said, moving over to me gingerly and wrapping his arm around my shoulder. "You drive here?" he asked me, making me nod. "Let's go to your car" he said, then with Erica still by my side, we headed on over to my truck.

....................

"You want me to come with you?" he asked me as he made sure I got sat in the truck safely. I smiled softly and shook my head. "Thanks, but I'll be okay" I nodded, "yeah, I've got her" Erica said from the passenger seat. He nodded at her, "I'll call you later...if that's okay" he asked me, I swallowed a huge clump of tears back and nodded. "Thanks Zak" I managed to croak out, and then starting the engine, I pulled the truck out of the parking lot.

............................

An hour had passed and now I was sitting numbly at my kitchen table holding a mug of hot chocolate in my hands. The noise of another mug scraping along the wooden top made me look up to see Erica sitting opposite me. I swallowed hard and rubbed my eye. My head felt like it was going to explode and my eyes were sore from all the tears that had poured from them. The car journey back to the house was a quiet one, neither of us said anything, and I was spending the time trying to hold back the tears, but silently, they flooded my face.

"What the fuck has happened" Erica sighed, curling her fingers around the white porcelain mug. I shrugged, raising my eyes to look at her. "Haven't a fucking clue" I groaned, my throat suddenly feeling really scratchy and sore. "I really thought that he was different..." I sighed, "I know it sounds stupid, but I honestly did." I told her, making her nod. "I think we all did sweetie," Erica said gently. "How can he say that he missed me and asked me to come see him tonight and then when I see him he's with some other fucking girl" I rested my head against my fist as I bent my elbow on the table top. "And what the hell was that with Zak?!" she asked, frowning. I groaned, moving to slump back in my chair. "That's the other fucked up thing..."

...........

"Whoa" Erica widened her eyes at me. "Uh-huh...talk about a fucked up night right?" I said, a little pessimistic laugh escaped my lips. "He loved you?" she whispered in shock. I nodded and raised an eyebrow. "Yep. All the fucking time, but decided to let me go in case I didn't feel the same" I repeated to her, maybe as well as myself. "Fuck me sideways" she slumped back, mirroring my body language.

.............

After another hour of talking, we headed to my room to get into bed. Erica had some clothes here, hey she was my best friend, besides, and we frequently stayed over at each others, so it was pretty normal. Anyway, I flicked the bedside lamp off and snuggled up in my covers.

"Hey..." Erica sat up a little, looking at me. I rolled over and looked back at her, "did Zak know about you and Marshall before he saw us outside?" she asked me, I nodded, stupidly in the dark, "yeah...when I told him I had moved on, he wanted to know who, so I told him. And then he realised that's why I was there tonight" I explained. "Hmm...." She sighed, "What?" I questioned. She pondered for a moment, and I know she was thinking about something, "Well, when Zak was walking us back to the truck, I looked back round and I saw Marshall looking our way, I swear he saw us and he looked pissed"

"Marshall always looks pissed" I replied with a frown. "Well yeah, but...it just didn't seem right." she said, shuffling a little, "like, if he didn't give a fuck why would he look concerned? Or pissed? Surely he wouldn't care at all" she questioned. I shrugged, "or maybe he is just the asshole that he brags that he is." I said, rolling back over. I just wanted this night to be over.
