I grumbled when I heard it. The doorbell. A new letter.
I got up from the couch and then made sure that there's no one on the other side before opening the door. As soon as I opened it, I was greeted by a letter.
Well, at least that's what you thought happened, right?
I widened my eyes in surprise as I saw the familiar girl in front of me.
"You?!" I exclaimed in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
The girl sighed and then said, "You don't really remember me, Ham, do you?"
I looked at her in confusion. How in world does she know my nickname?
Wait, let me correct that. Ex-nickname.
"I met up with Cedric on the way. Even he forgot me, until I had to remind him. Why did all of my classmates forget me?"
Classmate? What is she talking about?
She has grayish green eyes. She has short, curly, black hair. She's taller than me. She says that she was once upon a time my classmate.
And I don't know who she is.
Bless my memory.
She shook her head and then extended her hand towards me, "Anyways, let me introduce myself again. I'm Macy, and I do remember that my friends used to be Hailey, Hannah and Cedric. And then Cedric left, and Hailey and Hannah forgot that I exist. Then Hailey died, Hannah cried, fate tried but couldn't change its plans and in the end Hannah left."
Macy. Macy Adams.
"So class, we're going to have a new student join us today. She's going to introduce herself. Please welcome her and make her feel comfortable," the teacher announced and smiled as the new student walked in.
The girl had long, silky black hair and grayish green eyes. Wow. I love her eye color, it's so unique. Mine are just plain brown. I don't think I have ever met a girl in my life with grayish green eyes.
The girl looked nervous as she was about to introduce herself and tried to smile and began, "Uh, hi. I-I'm Macy Adams. I-I'm new to t-this school and I-"
"No need to be shy, Macy. It's just us, not some monsters," Hailey said with an encouraging smile while I grinned and nodded too, which seemed to boost up Macy as she gave a genuine smile and then confidently continued,
"I arrived in this city recently from Australia as my father was transferred here for his job, but I must say Chicago is a pretty good place too. My favorite color is sky blue and my hobby is to sing."
"So you sing? Would you like to sing a song for us?" the teacher suggested and Macy smiled brightly at her.
Macy sang a song and I must say her voice is beautiful. Then the teacher made her sit on the bench which was in front of us, and on which Cedric was enjoying sitting alone.
"Aw, man, I was about to sleep on the bench," Cedric pouted sadly as Macy came and sat down beside him.
Macy just smiled at him as I remarked, "That was beautiful. You have a pretty voice."
Macy turned and I saw the happiness in her eyes at my compliment. "Thanks so much."
And I knew we would become great friends.
"Ring a bell?" Macy asked me while narrowing her eyes at me.
"Yeah," I whispered in a daze.
"So, can I come in?"
