Bianca's P.O.V.
"Dad," I said shakily. "I'm nervous."
"I know you are," my dad, the principal of my new school said. "But don't worry. You'll make new friends in no time."
"Promise?" I whispered, clutching his arm.
"Promise," he smiled, kissing my forehead. Then we walked into the band room. "Ah, Mr. Salem. Here's your newest Chaplin Falls Hornets marcher."
"Hello, Bianca is it?" Mr. Salem greeted. I nodded and we shook hands. "I'm Mr. Salem and," he looked around. "Where are those girls?" he muttered. "Kaitlyn, Lacy, Addison, please come down here."
Three girls bounded over to us, one of them holding a trombone, the instrument I played.
"Girls, this is Bianca, your new fellow trombonist," Mr. Salem introduced. "And Bianca, this is Lacy, Kaitlyn and Addison."
"Hi," I said, waving a little, clutching my trombone case tighter.
"Have fun sweetie," my dad smiled, walking away.
"Bye," I said, at the same time the girls said, "Bye Principal Beesly!"
"So principal's daughter," one of the girls started. "Where did you come from?"
"North Fairwood," I replied, setting my case down on a chair.
"Cool," she smiled. "I'm Kaitlyn, by the way." She had long and crimped blonde hair with blue eyes that sparkled. She was also wearing pink flip flops on her feet.
"I'm Addison, Kaitlyn's 10th grade sister," the next girl introduced. She had the same hair as Kaitlyn's, but she had brown eyes, wore glasses, and was wearing blue flip flops.
"And I'm Lacy. I'm in 8th grade with Kaitlyn," Lacy greeted. She was wearing her brunette hair in a short ponytail and her brown eyes radiated kindness. Lacy was wearing a headband and tennis shoes.
"So what grade are you in?" Kaitlyn asked, starting to set up herself trombone.
"7th," I responded, copying her actions. Once my trombone was all set up, I played a perfect F note which received smiles from all the girls.
Kaitlyn, Addison, Lacy and I all made conversation about random things until the most amazing laugh made me snap my head sideways.
A tall brunette boy with black and red glasses was holding a silver baritone and was bending over laughing hysterically.
"He's in your grade," Lacy stated.
"Hayden Hepart," mused Addison.
"He's one of the popular kids," finished Kaitlyn.
"Popular?" I laughed. "A popular kid in marching band. Yeah, right."
"He's pretty popular, actually," shrugged Kaitlyn. "But he's way too obsessed with girls. I'd watch out if I were you."
"Okay," I said, not really pushing the matter. And with that, band camp officially started with Mr. Salem's blow of the whistle.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
When band camp ended, I was really excited to go to school. Kaitlyn was my new best friend and she promised to sit with me at lunch. Chaplin Falls was really awesome so far. School, here I come!
The first day of school came quickly, and I walked into homeroom rather nervously since there were no 7th grade girls in marching band. I stepped in, and I saw a couple of boys who had been in band.
Quickly taking my seat, I sat through homeroom and then traveled to 1st period. After my torturous first math class, I ran down to the gym where I would be partaking in Phys Ed.
I nervously walked into the gym, not knowing anyone except for Kaitlyn's brother, Noah, who was also in marching band. I took a seat on the bleachers, secluding myself from the others. Our gym teacher passed out a syllabus and after 35 minutes of reading it, we were able to go play with the basketballs and the volleyballs.
Since I was in a dress and wearing flats, I bit my lip and pretended to study the sheet of paper so I wouldn't look like a complete loner.
"Hey," a voice interrupted my thoughts. "You can come sit with us if you want." I looked to my right and two girls were sitting there smiling at me.
Gratefully, I took my book bag and syllabus and went over to the girls.
"Thank you," I grinned. "I'm Bianca."
"Sadie," the girl who invited me over greeted. She had long, silky brown hair with blue-ish gray-ish eyes. She was very pretty, with a full face, with a very cute sense of fashion.
"And I'm Sofie," the other girl said. This girl had glasses and tiny brown eyes. Her brown hair was pulled up in a ponytail, wrapped with a blue elastic.
"Nice to meet you Sadie and Sofie," I said.
"You're new here," Sadie stated. "So you don't know anything about Chaplin Falls kids."
The rest of gym class was me learning about the kids to go for, and who to stay away from.
Once I got the bads and the goods separated in my mind, I looked around the gym at the kids participating in sports. This was my new school. But something caught my eye.
A boy with brown hair and red and black glasses was dribbling around the court, totally killing his peers in a game of basketball.
"I know him," I mused. "From band camp. What's his name again?"
"Hah!" Sadie snorted. "You mean Hayden Hepart? Please. I'd stay away from him."
"I keep hearing people say that about him," I said, kind of irritated. "He seems sweet."
"Yeah he's sweet alright," Sofie grumbled. "Until he breaks up with you just to go after the more prettier girl."
"I'm so sorry Sofie," I gasped. "If I may ask, which girl did he go for?"
"Kacey Anderson," she sighed. "At least, that's what the rumors are."
"Kacey is in my classes," I said. She was really pretty, with
blonde hair, full pink lips, glasses and lovely blue eyes. "I'm really sorry.""So," Sadie cleared her throat. "I wouldn't be interested in Hayden Hepart if I were you."
"Agreed," Sofie said.
"Okay," I nodded. But their voices were already far away as I felt myself unable to look away from Hayden Hepart.
