Hayden's P.O.V.

(Earlier that morning)

I took a deep breath as I walked into school. I had been thinking long and hard, debating with myself in my mind.

I had reached a conclusion.

I walked over to my best friend Sam's locker and waited for him to arrive.

I saw a familiar mop of golden hair and suddenly, Sam was in front of me.

"Hey Hay," he winked. I barely registered our 6 year old inside joke.

"Sam, we have to talk," I said firmly.

"Yeah dude. What's up?" Sam asked, his brow creasing.

"It's about Bianca," I blurted after a moment of self composure.

Sam nodded and said, "She seems cool. You still into her? I'll help you with a plan to ask her out."

"No, no," I sighed, frustrated. "I thought it over and I realized.... I can't stop loving Kacey."

Sam's face softened.

"That's too bad man. She obviously has a thing for you."

"That's exactly it," I exclaimed quietly, trying not to gain any attention from my peers. "I would hate to hurt her feelings because she's really cool and we're friends."

"Ouch..." Sam flinched. "You just friend zoned her into next year."

"Bro, just listen," I pleaded. "I need a favor."

"I can't make any promises, but sure, I'll listen," Sam shrugged.

"I have to get Bee off my trail and onto someone else's," I explained carefully.

"Okay," he replied. "Who's that someone?"

I rolled my eyes and looked pointedly in his eyes.

"Oh. OH. Oh god Hay, me? Wait, are you serious?" Sam gulped, a light bulb going off in his dim brain. I sometimes wondered how he had landed a spot in honors classes.

"Dead," I nodded. "Will you?"

"I don't know...." he trailed.

"Fine," I said. "How about being friends first? Then take things a little further."

"How will I benefit from this?" Sam pressed.

"You'll be helping your best friend out," I stated. "And plus, you'll be dating one of the most cutest girls in our grade. Cmon Meyers. You can't deny that your type is nerdy and adorable."

Sam reddened.

"Yeah, she is pretty cute." There was a huge pause. "Fine. I'll make a move on her as soon as possible."

"Yes!" I exclaimed. "Thanks bro! I owe you one."

"30 bucks," Sam deadpanned, holding out his hand.

"What?"

"Give me 30 bucks and we'll be even."

"Okay," I shrugged and took $15 dollars out of my pocket. "The rest comes after you're dating her."

"Deal," Sam agreed. The bell rang. "Catch you later Hay."

"Bye Meyers."

I breathed a sigh of relief as we parted ways. This was going to work.

"Either way you're by my side until my dying days."
