Chapter 8
Surprises

I was in a red silk gown that I brought just in case, it hugged my body tightly and was long sleeved, I had my hair in 3 French braids. One braid on both sides and another down the middle of my head. The food here was excellent, and elegant like something in old tales. I sat with Thorin, Lord Elrond, and Gandalf at a table away from the rest of the company. "So I see you brought an Elf with you," Lord Elrond said to Gandalf and Thorin while looking at me.

"An Elf? She is no Elf she was born and raised in Erebor like the rest of us!" Thorin said kind of annoyed.

"Um...that is not entirely true my friend," Gandalf said to Thorin, by this time I was really confused, me and Elf no way. "She is a half Elf half Dwarf, she was born in Rivendell, her mother was Lady Andenessa, Lord Elronds sister. She was supposed to be ruler of Rivendell but she died giving birth to you. Your father thought it would be safer for you to live in Erebor. That is why you look like an Elf and have all the qualities of an elf except shortness."

Thorin was shocked, I was shocked, Lord Elrond was shocked. "Lady Adrianna is it really you?"

"It cannot be, how could I have possibly have grown up with an Elf!" Thorin argued.

"Um.. Lord Elrond, or should I call you Uncle Elrond, does this mean I am a princess?"

"Yes, my dear Adrianna," Uncle Elrond said to me, "You look just like your mother I swear, how could I not have known?"

After dinner Gandalf told Thorin, Balin, Bilbo, and I to come with him we had something to do.

"Our business is no concern of Elves," Thorin argued.

"For goodness sakes,Thorin... show him the map!" Gandalf insisted.

"It is the legacy of my people, it is mine to protect as are its secrets," Thorin stubbornly said.

"Save me from the stubbornness of Dwarves! Your pride will be your downfall!" Gandalf said getting really annoyed, "You are in the presence of one of the few people in middle earth who can read that map! Show it to Lord Elrond!"

"Thorin, No!" Balin pleaded but Thorin just swatted him away and handed Lord Elrond the map.

"Erebor? What is your interest in this map?" Lord Elrond interrogated.

"Is mainly academic," Gandalf insisted, "as you know this sort of artifact sometimes contains hidden text... You still read ancient Dwarfish do you not?"

"Cirth Ithil." Elrond read.

"Moon runes?" Gandalf translated, "Of corse, an easy thing to miss."

"In this case it is true, moon runes can only be read by the light of the moon of the same shape and season as the day in which they were written," Elrond told us.

"Can you read them?" Thorin asked.

We followed Lord Elrond on to a cliff with a crystal table. He set the map down and said, " These ruines were written on a mid-summers Eve with a crescent moon nearly 200 years ago. It would seem that you were meant to come to Rivendell. Fate is with you Thorin Oakenshield, for the same moon shines on us tonight." The table started to glow and some writing in bright blue showed up on the map. "Stand by the grey stone when the Thrush knocks... And the setting sun with the last light of Durin's day... Will shine upon the key hole."

"Durins Day?" Bilbo asked.

"It is the start of the Dwarves New Year when the last moon of autumn and the first sun of winter appear in the sky together," Gandalf said to Bilbo.

"This is ill news," Thorin said, "summer is passing Durin's day will soon be upon us."

"We still have time," Balin said.

"Time? For what?" Biblo asked yet another question.

"To find the entrance," Balin continued,"we have to be standing at exactly the right spot at exactly the right time. Then and only then can the door be opened."

"So this is your purpose? To enter the mountain?" Elrond asked.

"What of it?" Thorin sassed back.

"There are some who would not deem it wise," Elrond said.

"What do you mean?" Gandalf curiously asked.

"You are not the only guardian to stand watch over Middle Earth," Elrond informed him.

"Thorin please," I said,"try to be a little nicer, he is my family." Thorin just sighed in responce.

One of Elronds maids came and escorted me to my room, It was like a mini house there was a big bathroom with 30 different smelling soaps, there was a sitting room, the bedroom was giant, there was a walk-in closet filled with the prettiest dresses and a new sword, a bow, some arrows, a quiver, 3 daggers, and a belt.

"Will this do m'lady?" The servant asked,"If you need anything just ring the bell next to your bed." She bowed and started to walk out.

"Wait. before you go, what is your name?" I asked.

"Nessusa, m'lady but you can call me Ness," she answered.

"Thank you," with that she bowed and left.

I decided to take a nice long bath, and then I got a long light blue dress with flower designs and long sleeves. I took a walk through the gardens.

"An Elf huh? I was not expecting that," a familiar deep, soothing voice said from behind.

"I guess so Thorin, see Elves are not so bad are they?"

"Well now I now where you get your beauty from," he said stroking my cheek, we were so close I could smell his breath.

"You don't mean that," I say. His eyes were glistening in the moonlight.

"Yes, I do you are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life," he said while getting closer to me.

"That is very flattering, thank you."

"Adrianna, when we take back Erebor will you stay or come back to Rivendell?"

"I don't know Thorin, I don't know"

"If I asked you to would you?" he said get so close our lips were only a centimeter apart. I looked into his eyes and then kissed him.

It was nice and warm I felt like fireworks were going off in side me. It was a long soothing kiss when we finally parted a gave him a hug and went up to my room and squealed like a little girl I was so happy!
