Chapter 5; The Aftermath
Chapter song; Little Do You Know - Alex & Sierra

I was awake before my alarm went off. I had been lying wide awake in bed for about an hour. Sleep isn't something that's come easy to me in a long time. In fact it's become something I dread. You're probably thinking how on earth could you dread sleep? Don't get me wrong the idea of sleep is heavenly. But when you go to bed knowing you won't sleep well or be able to sleep at all, you begin to dread it. Luckily for me Aaron makes some of the strongest coffee known to man.

Penny and I were in her bed, we had fallen asleep watching tv. That's the only way either of us can fall asleep. We had to get to the point where you're passing out to fall asleep. Staying asleep was a problem we hadn't yet solved. We've tried everything, trust me. She began to stir beside me as the alarm sounded, making her groan irritably as she turned it off. She looked over to me with a glare.

"If you're awake the least you can do is turn off the alarm." She snaps.

I rolled my eyes, "Just making sure you're up in time for school."

She threw her pillow on my face, "Do something useful and get me some coffee."

I push myself up, but instantly regret it. My abdomen screams in pain as I do. I push past it, pretending I was fine for Penny's sake. But once I got to the bathroom I lifted up my shirt to see some discoloration, of purple and blue hues, from the middle/bottom of my rib cage to the beginning of my hip. When I looked up at myself in the mirror, I could see a yellowish remnant of what Roy had done last night around my neck. It was barely noticeable. But I could see it. I grabbed my makeup bag doing my best to cover it up, or make it look more natural.

Letting out a sigh as I look at myself for the second time, I looked normal now. Now I could pretend I was okay. Because everything about me, at this point, looked okay. I threw on an outfit I had planned last night, because I knew I'd feel crappy enough in the morning, I didn't want to put any extra strenuous thought on today. I walked downstairs where Aaron was already up. He kept rubbing the side of his head leading me to believe that, that's where he got hit last night. He looks up at me and forces a smile, and it's obvious.

"Good morning, wannabe nurse." He says jokingly bumping my shoulder.

I force a laugh, "Morning slugger." He chuckles at the nickname. It's something he had become notorious for.

Aaron had wanted to be a baseball player growing up, but those dreams went to shit after Rita died. Now he works at bars and auto-body shops. But he's been getting in some trouble with the police too. He'll drag race or be caught speeding. And he also has gotten in quite a few fights. Plus he's always the one who knocks out Roy when he gets out of hand. Thats how he got the nickname.
