Chapter 12 - Unexpected Visitor

-Jakes POV-

Hunter and Alex came back almost 20 minutes after we had called them. Since then Shelby had continuously gone back and forth between the bathroom and the bed. At some point she just ended up staying in the bathroom. Now we were all sitting out in the hallway waiting for the results.

   Hunter was pacing back and forth while Alex, Abel and I were playing Rock Paper Scissors.

   "Ha! Take that Alex." Abel yelled at him.

"What the hell!" Alex exclaimed in frustration.

   "Guys come on knock it off." I said to them.

   Before they could respond and blame the other the bathroom dorr opened slowly. Shelby poked her head out and Hunter immediately walked over to her and we followed.

"Well?" Hunter asked softly.

Shelby showed us the tester and we heard Hunter suck in a breath. It was positive. She pulled out the second test and it read negative. Finally, she pulled out the third one and it read positive as well.

"I guess we all know what this means." She whispered.

   "We're going to have a kid." Hunter said while hugging Shelby.

-Time Skip-

   It's been almost 5 months since Shelby came to visit us and had her job interview. She ended up getting the job and started working almost immediately. After she moved back here of course. Alex and Hunter went back with her to help her box things up and move out.

Now she is living with us, until she finds a house or apartment for Hunter and her, and their baby of course. Right now though, she is sleeping on the couch with her head in Hunter's lap and her feet on Alex's lap. While Abel and I are in the kitchen making dinner for everyone. I started to get the plates out when I heard a knock at the door.

   "Hey guys are we expecting anyone?" I asked.

   "I don't think so." Said Abel.

   I walked to the door, opened it and saw our friend Arianna, who we just call Nana.

   "Arianna? What are you doing here?" I asked her while pulling her in for a hug.

   "I heard Shelby was here and I wanted to come see her." She replied.

"She's asleep in the living room at the moment. Do you want to join us for dinner though?" Abel asked.

"I'd love too!" She exclaimed while walking into the living room.

I walked back into the kitchen to get the plates again but dropped them when I heard an earth shattering scream come from the living room. Abel and I both ran to see what had happened.

"You're pregnant and you didn't tell me!" Arianna yelled at Shelby, who was now wide awake and rubbing her belly.

"Im sorry I forgot to tell you. I was busy moving and it just slipped my mind that's all. Wait, when did you get here?" Shelby said.

"You forgot to tell me? I'm your best friend though how could you forget? And I got here just a few minutes ago."

"I'm sorry Nana, I really am, and what's that smell?" Shelby said while standing up and waddling to the kitchen.

"Wait Shelby don't go in there, there's glass everywhere!" I yelled at her and ran after. When I got there she had bent down and started to pick up the pieces.

"Why did you drop all the plates?" She asked.

I walked over and helped her up and sat her down in a chair. "Because Arianna gave out a blood curtailing scream and scared the shit out of me. That's why."

"Oh I understand." She said while standing back up.

   "What are you doing?" I asked her as she bent back down to the ground.

   "Helping you pick up the broken plates, what else could I be doing?" She responded.

   As she went to pick up one of the pieces she gasped in pain and fell to her knees. I immediately went to her side and held her up.

   "Shelby what's wrong?" I ask worriedly.

   She grunts in pain. "Nothing, I'm fine Jakey." She tries to assure me by patting my arm, but when she tries to stand back up she cries out in even more pain. The others came running in to see what was happening.

   "We need to take her to the hospital. Now." Arianna said.

   "I'm fine. Really. It's just my back acting up again." She tried to reason with us.

   "Shelby something could be harming you and the baby. There isn't any room for discussion. We're going to the hospital right now."
