Chapter 13 - A Mothers Instinct

-Hunter's POV-

We were all on the way to the hospital when Shelby told us to pull over. We all looked at her like she was crazy but then saw the look on her face. She was about to throw up. I pulled the car over and she got out and went to her hands and knees immediately.

"Shelby? Are you alright?" Nana asked her.

"I think something is wrong. Am I suppose to be throwing up blood?" She responded.

"Get back in the car. We need to get to the hospital." I told her.

   About 30 minutes later we finally got to the hospital and Shelby was put into a room. Now we were waiting to see what the Doctor thinks we should do next.

   "How long does it take for a doctor to see a pregnant woman who is in pain and has been throwing up blood!" I yelled out in frustration.

   "Hunter calm down. It is a hospital they can get busy." Nana said.

   I sat down on the bed next to Shelby who was hooked up to an IV bag and flipping through the Television channels. Finally, the doctor came in along with a nurse. I stood up and got out of their way.

   "If a few of you would be so kind as to wait outside, it's getting a bit too crowded in here for my liking." The doctor said.

   Everyone left except me, which the doctor raised his eyebrows to, but didn't acknowledge. So I quietly stood in the corner so they could do what was to be needed.

   "So what seems to be the problem miss Mowry, is it?" The Doctor asked while looking at some papers attached to a clipboard.

   "I've been having shots of pain shooting all throughout my body since this morning and on the way here, I was throwing up blood." Shelby explained.

   "And you're pregnant to top it off correct?"

   "Yes sir."

   "Well I think we should do some testing just to make sure everything is alright with you and your child. If you don't mind me asking, who is the father?"

   I stepped closer to her bed and grabbed hold of her hand. "I am."

   "Do you mind if I talk to you outside for a moment? Your friends may come back in." The doctor told me. I nodded my head yes and kissed the top of Shelby's head and went out, while the others went in.

   We stood right outside the doorway and the doctor started looking through his papers on the clipboard yet again.

   "I would like to start a few tests as soon as possible, and while we're waiting for the tests to be approved I would also like to do an ultrasound, just to make sure everything is as it should be with your child. What I'm seeing here hasn't happened normally, which is why I am concerned for the well being of your ... ?" He drifted off.

   "Girlfriend." I finished for him. Even though I never really asked her to be my girlfriend, I just assumed naturally that was what we were. I guess I should double check just to make sure.

   "Right. So I'll send these off and have the nurse come in and do the ultrasound while we're all waiting." The doctor said then walked away.

I walked back in the room to find the nurse already starting the ultrasound. I walked over and stood beside Shelby who was shaking like crazy.

"Are you ok?" I asked her. She nodded her head yes and looked over to the screen.

"It should be around here somewhere ... Ah, there it is!" The nurse pointed to the screen and you could make out just the head of the fetus growing inside her stomach.

"There he is." Shelby said.

"He?" I asked her.

"Yes he. I have a feeling it's going to be a boy."

"How do you know?" Alex asked her.

"Why it's a mothers instinct of course." She giggled. To which I smiled at.

   The doctor came back in with a wheelchair and a few other nurses. "The tests have been approved so we can get started now."

I help Shelby out of the bed and put her in the wheelchair. Then go back to sit down and wait with the others.

-Three Hours Later-

Finally, the doctor and Shelby came back around three hours later with the results of the tests ready. I helped her back into bed and the doctor cleared his throat.

   "The tests show that there is nothing wrong with Shelby or the baby, it was just a case of morning sickness. It happens every once in a while and Shelby told me that she has previously had back problems when she was younger. That could just be her back acting up to where it hurts all throughout her body. We can give her some pain medincine to help with it, but other than that they are both perfectly healthy."

I heard everyone let out a breath of relief as the doctor continued on.

"We can have you out of here in just a few short minutes. If you would just sign here and here and there." The doctor said while pointing at where Shelby needed to sign her name. "Alright. You're now free to go home."

"Thank you doctor. For everything." Shelby said.

The doctor nodded his head and walked out. Afterwards, we all started to gather our things and we helped Shelby out to the car.

"Well that was exciting hmm?" Shelby said.

I laughed at her and smiled. "If that's what you want to call it, sure, it was exciting." I replied and started the car up for the drive home.

I just realized that neither of us, the people who are writing this book in case you couldn't tell there are two, didn't post any pictures of Jake or Abel. So up top or to the side or wherever it shows up, is a picture of Jake. One of Abel and Alex will show up soon as well!
