Chapter Fourteen.
"Serena! Be quiet!"
Dalton chuckled as he waited for Kiera to open the front door. Suddenly her flushed face was peeking through the crack of the slightly opened door.
"Hi, come on in." Kiera said softly.
Dalton slipped in before being greeting by a solid white canine with ghostly blue eyes. "Oh, I didn't know you had a dog."
Kiera patted the Doberman's shoulder. "I never mentioned him?"
"Not once."
"Oh, well this is Zero. " She laughed softly before heading down the hallway and into the kitchen. "You can just set those on the counter."
Dalton nodded and placed the bags on the counter. "So, anyone else besides your sister here?"
"Nope, it's just us for the time being."
"Okay cool. So, what do you want to do first?" Dalton asked, looking at the kitchen. It was an off white with large cabinets that held green and yellow china. Off to the side was a dark wooden table that sat eight people. Some papers were scattered across the gray marble countertops.
"I was thinking you could decide. You're the guest." Kiera flashed a smile before grabbing two cups and setting them down on the counter. "So, what did you get?"
"Some Dr. Pepper, like three different types of chips. " Dalton replied before crouching down to pet the dog that seemed to follow her so closely. He held his hand out and Zero sniffed at it before nudging him. Dalton chuckled softly as the dog's ears perked up, "They seem so less intimidating when they're white."
"That's racist," Kiera remarked before bringing the pale green cup to her lips.
"That's not what I meant!" Dalton rolled his eyes and stood up. "I mean, the darker ones seem so mean and on edge."
"Still sounds racist. Zero is just as capable of ripping you to shreds as his littermates were. Even now he's still unsure of you."
Dalton side glanced at Zero; sure enough, his pale blues were focused on him.
"They're bred to be fearless, intimidating, and willing to defend their owners but trained to only do so on command. They're extremely loyal, intelligent, and easily teachable."
"Oh, well thanks, Wiki."
Kiera turned slightly red, "Sorry. I've been in love with Dobermans since I was five. I just had to learn everything about them. Whenever I start talking about Zero, I start spilling useless information."
"It's okay. Don't worry about it. So, why did you name him Zero?"
"Nightmare before Christmas and Vampire Knight, but mainly Nightmare before Christmas."
"Oh! I should have thought of that." Dalton laughed, "Well, do you want to go watch a movie or something?"
Kiera nodded and motioned for him to follow. She led him in what appeared to be the living room. The walls were a pale green with white trim, pictures covered the walls and faded white leather couches filled the space. Zero trotted over to the far corner by a large window and began to turn in circles before laying down and staring at him.

"That was the stupidest movie I've ever seen. I can't believe you made me go through that." Dalton groaned and leaned his head back. "Why? Why did you do that?" His bright eyes found Kiera's, warm and gleaming with amusement.
"What even was that plot?" He continued, lips turning up into a grin. "Did a three year old come up with that?"
That got a laugh out of her. Her hands clasped together as a joyful sound fell from her pale pink lips. "That's the point!"
"What does that even mean?"
"The plot is there is no reason behind anything."
"So a tire just goes around blowing up people?"
"Yep!" Kiera giggled, leaning forward and pointing at the television screen. "That's the true beauty of the human creativity."
"That's not true beauty at all."
"Oh yeah? Than what is?" Kiera retorted.
Dalton paused for a moment, racking his mind for even the simplest form of beauty. He glanced around the took but again his eyes fell onto her, his red headed companion. "True beauty is the universal language of music, how it speaks to everyone in different ways. Sometimes it's powerful and we can't help but chase after it and pray that maybe our lives will intertwine with it somehow but others are content with simply letting it decorate the time. " He stopped, Kiera was simply in awe hanging onto every word he spoke.
Dalton hesitated, taking a deep breath before continuing with his dangerous words, "I think you're true beauty."
He searched her face as it turned pink, her canines grazed her lower lip before she looked away. Hesitantly, Dalton reached over, his thumb sliding under her chin and turning her head. "That's what I think true beauty is." He muttered softly before leaning forward and pressed his lips against hers for a fleeting second.
Dalton felt like a balloon, his mind had been filled with so much hellion that felt he could have soared far above the clouds but something had poked a hole in him and he would fall to the ground in a very ungraceful way.
"I'm so sorry, I don't know why I did that. I wasn't thinking..." Dalton muttered, "I sh-"
Clumsy hands grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer. Dalton's eyes were wide as Kiera kissed him back. Soon his eyes fluttered shut and his hands rested on her lower back. Everything about the kiss seemed needy. Kiera's grip on his shirt loosened and he pulled away. His eyes searched her face, she had the slightest spray of freckles across her nose and cheeks. Her brown eyes contained flecks of gold.
Dalton pressed against her shoulders so that she lay on the couch. He began leaving butterfly kisses on her jaw and trailing down to her neck and collarbones. There was a slight gasp and he grinned.
Her fingers tangled in his hair and pulled him closer. "Wait." He sighed, "Wait, I, uh... You have a girlfriend; we shouldn't."
"Not anymore." Kiera sat up, taking a deep breath. "We broke up earlier this week."
Dalton hated to say this was good news, but it was! "Oh, sorry."
There was a high pitched whine and a huff before Dalton was crushed by Zero. The dog barked a few times before attempting to lick Kiera's face.
"Ew Zero! Gross!" She pushed the dog off the couch, "Sorry about him. He gets jealous. I'm sorry."
"It's nothing. Probably a good thing he jumped up here." Dalton chuckled before standing up and stretching. "I think we forgot we weren't alone here."
