When I was 17 my life was turned upside down. I was living a perfectly normal life. Going to school, hanging out with my friends, being able to do normal teenage things until I was diagnosed with cancer.

You're all probably thinking "here we go again, another story" but my journey was a roller-coaster ride. There was constant ups and downs.

But here I am, looking in the mirror at a normal teenage girl, in her new school uniform about to start school at a new school. My cousin Michael walks into my room to snap me out of my thoughts.

"You ready to go? Don't want to be late". Michael has always been like a brother to me. Since I was an only child, having his company was something I valued and made us close.

"Are you sure I'm ready for this? I don't know if I can handle this again. I haven't been to high school in months!" Panic turned my positive thoughts negative with bad scenarios of what could happen at this new school. Having spent months in a hospital bed meant movies and more movies until you've seen one particular movie so many times you can quote it word for word. Would this school be like High School Musical where we have to sing and dance unexpectedly because I have two left feet and sound like a dying cat.

"Darcy, look at me" Michael said calmly which caused me to turn around from looking in the mirror to face him.

"Everything is going to be fine, I promise. You will have me and my friends and I promise we will not leave your side" Michael pulled me into a hug which instantly made me feel much better. Maybe I was overreacting. Maybe it isn't exactly like High School Musical.

Michael led me to the bus stop talking about the teachers we have. By 'we have' I mean that my mum called the school up when I was enrolling and asked to have me in every class Michael has which means I am protected by Michael.

As we arrive at the bus stop which is at the end of the road we see 2 guys leaning up against a fence extremely casually , laughing about something. They both had the same uniform as Michael but not wearing their blazers or ties. It only hit me as we got closer to them and they made eye contact with Michael that they were Michael's friends. They stood up straight and walked over towards Michael and gave him a 'man hug'.

"Darcy, these are two of my best mates. Ashton." He said pointing to the guy in with the black bandanna and his dimples which added to his warm smile. He stuck out his hand and I shock it awkwardly.

"And Calum" He said motioning to the other guy who was standing next to Ashton. I shock his hand and was surprised when he spoke.

"So you're the famous Darcy Michael talks about" Michael chuckled which made me panic. Does he mean it in a good way or a bad way. Like in the way that they can bully me or in the way that Michael says great things about me. I think Michael picked up that I was panicking because all he had to do was hold my hand and I felt safe. "Michael told us about what happened. I would say I'm sorry but I'm guessing you get that a lot"

"Yep, and I hate it so much when people say sorry to me for this. It's not actually your fault I have cancer so why should you be saying sorry" Calum and Ashton laughed at my comment and we suddenly heard another voice. I turned around to see a tall, bright blue eyed boy approaching us.

"Just in time, like always" Michael says giving him a 'man hug', like he did with the rest of the boys. Then Calum and Ashton gave him a man hug until he was standing in front of me.

"And you must be Darcy. I can't believe I finally get to meet the famous Darcy" He gave me a warm smile which I returned without really realizing. The bus appeared and we all made our way onto the bus. I followed the rest of the boys and sat down next to Michael. The boys began to talk about something that I had no idea about so I decided to zone out until a voice broke me out of my daydream.

"So what music do you listen to?" I looked up to see the 'nameless friend' looking at me with the same smile as before.

"Pretty much everything Michael listens to" I said looking down at my phone nervously.

"You must have a great taste in music then" I looked back up to see his blue sparkling eyes, and when I say sparkling I mean sparkling. "Lets play a quick game. Go onto your Music and shuffle all your songs. Lets see what comes up first" I quickly opened up my music, interested on what song will pop up first. I pressed shuffle and a smile hit my face when 'The Strays by Sleeping with Sirens' came on. I smiled to myself because it's one of my favorite songs. "Sleeping with Sirens, nice".

There are times in your life that you know you will remember, and this right now is one. My first day at school. Even though it was scary entering the school gates, meeting new teachers and Michaels friends; it would be a memory I will look back at and smile. It was a day that I was finally free and the day my life changed (for the second time).
