Only an hour until I can get out of here. Less than hour. 59 minutes. I wish I could’ve known that Anna was going to die because then I’d lock her in a cupboard and only let her out to go to the toilet. I’m not even kidding.
It’s finally 3:15. Any minute now my friends should come and help me along like in one of those dramatic films when the main character gets defeated by the villain and struggles to stand up. I’ve always fantasised about re-enacting an intense scene from a movie.
Ok...it’s half 3, where the fuck are they. Did they all get murdered? I’m joking of course, but that could actually have happened. Oh god. What would I do if all my friends were...gone?
Immediately ceasing my deep thoughts, Bailey and Lukas enter the room and glare at me sitting on my bed with my leg stretched out on a chair. They look as if they’ve been possessed by zombies. Oh god. What’s happened now?
“Hi...” I begin in a confused voice, after a few seconds.
Their glare changes to what I would describe as a sympathetic stare. I suddenly visualise an image of Anna...dead. I feel tears welling behind my eyes as I realise I’ll never speak to her again. She’s gone and I’ll have to accept that. My depressed thoughts are interrupted by Lukas.
“Laura...um...We know how Anna died. Do you want to know?”
“Fine. Go ahead.”
“She...she was...” He burst into tears and whimpered, “I’m sorry Laura. I can’t do this.” before running out of the room.
Bailey, being the strong guy he is, continued Lukas’ sentence.
“She was stabbed at least five times in the neck and they think it was with a scalpel but she basically had no chance of surviving because there was somehow a weak type of poison in her bloodstream and unfortunately there’s no way of finding out what it was. Oh and she was run over by one of the teachers and that’s how she was discovered but apparently that didn’t do any harm because she was already dead. Even though this form of murder sounds horrendous, at least it confirms she was murdered and didn’t commit suicide.”
What a way to find out how your best friend was murdered. I’m going to solve this mystery. I promise I will find out what happened. Nothing is going to stop me.
“Well...that didn’t traumatise me.” I remark sarcastically.
“Sorry, but someone had to tell you and I’m glad it was me. If it was someone else, they probably would’ve got the facts wrong.” He proclaims with a grin, while bending down to sit on the bed.
As if it’s coated in caramel, he slips his arm around my shoulders to comfort me. I lean towards him. I haven’t felt so loved in years. I never want this moment to end.
“Sorry we were late.” He eventually apologises. “We had to be interviewed about her death. You probably will too.”
“Thanks for warning me.” I reply as Lukas is carried into the room by who I think is probably Philip.
“Hi. He fainted because he accidentally ran into the blood test room, where I work and I was like...’why you in the blood test room my little twinkle?’ and he was like ‘ah blood’ so...like yeah.” The young man announced awkwardly as he laid him down on the floor and made out with him while continually saying “I’m giving you the kiss of life my sweetheart!”
Me and Bailey both glance at each other and begin to laugh in sync and after about a minute, he helps me up and passes me my crutches. Leaning on his shoulder, I manage to stumble across to the door. If only Anna was here to see.
