"Did you have fun in jail, miss criminal?” Tomlinson asked me, before drinking straight a shot of whiskey. I chuckled, glad that I did not have to handle the pitiful stares and the how are you's.
“In other words, he’s asking you if you had some lesbian experience in jail.” Harry flatly explained, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. I burst out laughing at the question while Harry threw him a menacing glance. But Tomlinson... Louis did not even acknowledge it. I expected my brother to make a small reaction, too. However, he seemed to be living in a bubble while he texted on his phone.
“Unfortunately no,” I managed to say in between my laughter. Tomlinson... Louis shrugged his shoulders in disappointment to hear some spicy story. “You watch too many movies.”
“And instead of imagining things about my girlfriend, go find yourself your own girl.” Harry huffed, pouring himself his first whiskey glass. A chuckle threatened to escape my lips at the hint of jealousy in his voice, but I held it.
“Sorry, mate.” He flatly replied, which I bet was not a genuine response. He turned his head towards the door of the pub.
We were at Jake’s pub. When Karl asked me where I wanted to be driven for my first day of freedom, I wanted to have fun. Just have fun. I did not want to be alone in my own apartment, even though I wanted to be alone with Harry. However, my first wish was to live fully my freedom with friends around some drinks and snacks.
Freedom never gave such a pleasure. My life had been a daily routine. I never really felt free until I was thrown into jail. Now freedom tasted like an incredible luck that I intended to appreciate. Such things made me realize how life had to be fully lived with people we cared about.
“Hey, who do we have here?” I heard a voice coming into our direction. I recognized Jake who was finally coming. He removed his coat and hung it with the others. He stood right in front of us, widely smiling. “Evelyn, glad you’re back here. I believed you were innocent.”
“Thanks,” I stated back, my voice came out colder than I wished to. My body started to fidget in my seated position. In the pit of my stomach, a feeling of uneasiness could be felt slowly build up. The four persons who we were supposed to celebrate my release were just men. My circle of friends used to be made up of girls, due to my mother’s choice of school.
“Forget about your job and make a toast with us.” Harry invited him. He had noticed his friend was throwing several glances towards the bar. He nodded and grabbed a chair from other tables to put it next to our table.
“Okay, but this time you better pay. I noticed you ordered my oldest bottles.” He said, sitting on the chair.
“Don’t worry. I’m here to pay.” I replied, since I was the one who ordered the best bottles. There were not enough good bottles of wine, so we only had fifty-year-old whiskey.
“Babe,” Harry mouthed between his teeth, looking straight into my eyes. “I told you it’s on me.”
“No, I want to.” I told him, smiling towards Jake.“Eve,” his voice sounded scolding, which surprised me. His green eyes fixed me strongly. I heaved an annoyed sigh out of my lips. His pride started to bother me. He never accepted my money and especially in front of his friends.
“Stop being proud,” I snapped, looking at him. I could understand the fact that he wanted to feel like the man who paid for his girlfriend's restaurant. I knew most of what he earned was given to his mother, since I discovered the checks he signed for her every month. Therefore, I did not want him to waste his money for my futile caprices.
