Qiu Shuang's pov

Some things are odd with Akilah. She's getting more paranoid each day and wasn't a bit like her usual jolly self. She became selfish with words, only nodding her head in greeting whenever she saw us. Even during dinner, normally she would be the loudest and nosiest person amongst us but these days she kept to herself.

I wonder if I could share with her that pleasant experience I've had that night. Sure, if it was the old her she would chatter non stop with excitement and tease me endlessly about it.

But with her current state, I believe I shouldn't tell her anything yet. Maybe she has her own problems to solve, instead of listening to me rambling on about my passionate stories.

Anyways, Odette is estimated to be giving birth by this week; every staff in our house were preparing to welcome this new life into the house.

Grayson spent more time with Odette, and I feel like I should understand him and his actions for doing so but I couldn't bottle up my jealousy.

Sometimes I find them in his room, chatting along happily, discussing about their child's future and I fear, what if one day he fell in love with Odette?

My heart aches whenever his eyes gleamed with elatedly as he talks about his soon to be born child and the mother of his child.

I'm selfish. I'm greedy. I want him for myself.

But a kind soul like Grayson wouldn't abandon his so called wife and child even if he don't love them at all.

I guess I'll just have to live with the title 'step mother'.

I sighed, fidgeting with my fingers, the pages of the books on my lap flipped as the wind blew gently.

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" A bloodcurdling scream rang through the enormous mansion, as it echoed through the building to the gardens where I'm in.

I scrambled up from the bench as I clumsily tried to gather my books together, and my legs took off as fast as it could into the mansion.

People say the brain is the logical one, and it tells you the right things to do. But the heart is where everything goes wrong.

Now my brain is telling me to stop running and get back to where I previously was because something awful had happened.

But my heart. It urged me to go take a look.

After hesitating on a spot for a few minutes, debating should I go in or not. In the end I gave in to my heart.

You could say curiosity killed the cat.

Grayson's pov
Everyone's eyes were focused on a pale, unconscious Odette. She was wearing a plain white hospital robe, as beads of sweat rolled down her forehead.

The once large baby bump now gone.

My mouth was set into a firm line.

When we found her, she was lying at the foot of the stairs unconscious, blood searing through her head and from between her legs.

I rushed her to the hospital and so far what I got was bad news.

The doctor said the impact was too big, the child did not survived when Odette had tumbled down the 36 flight of stairs. And her head had a hideous cut, where she got when she fell from the stairs.

And now she's still unconscious. I can only pray and hope that she would wake up as fast as possible.

My phone rang. "Gray. Any good news for Odette?"

"No. " I solemnly answered.

"Oh." there was an awkward pause.

I impatiently yelled at Jacques through the phone, demanding him to tell me what he had found out about this incident.

But all he gave me was a short 'you should come home and see for yourself'.

I ruffled my already messy hair as I ended the call furiously. Racing towards the basement to retrieve my car, my mind swirled with endless thoughts and possibilities.

I must've drove exceeding the speed limit because I reached the mansion faster than I've expected. Slamming the car door shut, I rang the doorbell several times continuously, clearly annoyed that no one was fast enough to open the door for me.

Once a servant clicked the door open I ran to the CCTV room where I'd instructed Jacques to check all sorts of video tapes.

Barging in the door, everyone's gaze landed on a red faced me.

"Play it. " I ordered.

"Gray... "

"JUST PLAY IT GOD DAMN IT." I growled in anger.

Nobody moved at all. I huffed in annoyance as I hit the play button myself, watching the video tape of the last few hours.

They had edited and cut the video into a fast forward one, and easily I found out how Odette fell from the stairs.

She was pushed by a person.

And to my surprise, that person was Qiu Shuang.

I slammed my fist on the table as I gritted my teeth, keep pressing rewind but technology don't lie.

The woman that pushed Odette, was clearly Qiu Shuang.

After rewinding a few more times and confirming that it really is her, I marched, out of the room in a blazing rage towards Qiu Shuang's bedroom.

"QIU SHUANG!!!!" I roared.

She was startled. "Grayson?"

"WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!  WHY THE F*CK DID YOU DO THAT?!"

"It's not me. " I see. She was feigning innocence. And I was a fool to believe she was the purest being on earth.

"YOU F*CKING KILLED THE BABY. YOU KILLED IT. YOU PUSHED HER DOWN!! " I screamed at her.
