Chapter 10

I wait for just a bit before going up. The crowds. All eyes on me. The interview, the questions ugh I'm gonna die. I see Finnick is in a nice shirtless outfit. Why must I ask do they decide to put him shirtless ? Whatever.

Next thing I know it's my turn. "Now. You've probably heard about the fearless girl from district 4 who volunteered. Ladies and gentlemen, Lillian Trescott!" Flickerman shouts and sits down. I walk up on the stage and it's incredible. There are so many people..... "Now, Mrs. Trescott. It must have taken some guts to volunteer for that little girl with one leg."

"Ya....I guess..I mean. No one else was volunteering for her. I mean, she did have one leg, she couldn't have made it."

"Oh... How nice of you. Now, funny thing. You're friend, Finnick, volunteered for you're brother with one arm. What do you think about that...?"

"I.......honestly. I never really got a chance to really thank Finnick. For what he did. Without him volunteering, my brother could be dead five minutes into the arena even.... So with that, I thank you..Finnick."

"I see... Now, you're dress! What a lovely piece of clothing!"

"Yes. Dustin, my stylist made it for me."

"And that water at the chariot event....wow.. That was incredible!"

"Thank you....actually...I have it with me now. Would you all like to see?" I ask.

"Would we?! Oh how marvelous! Let's see!" Flickerman stands up and watches me as I twirl around and around until I could practically throw up. The bottom tips of the beautiful dress show something of a mini fountain around it, with water spurting out. With an illusion of dolphins swimming at the bottom.

"Wow! Wow! Wow!! That was really! Really, something Lillian." Ceaser tells me as I sit down with him.

"Now....I saw you say goodbye to such a big family!"

"Ya. That's me. My mother, two little sisters and a brother. I love them all dearly, and we almost got Austin to come home. But he didn't...." I quietly say.

"And...did you make a promise of some sort saying goodbye, Mrs. Trescott?"

"Yes, I did. I promised my family id try to get back home. To help protect them. And make sure they don't starve..I hope to god they aren't now.." I say with hope, almost getting tears coming down my eyes.

"Good luck, Lillian. I wish you all the best. Ladies and gentlemen, Lillian Trescott!" Ceaser says as I get up and leave the stage.

"Oh, Lillian! You did magnificent!" I hear praise from Lorain and Dustin, along with Maggs. I watch Finnick's interview with Ceaser.

"Now, didn't you say you had a special someone?" Ceaser says

"Umm...yes. It's a bit complicated. But I did write a poem for her..."

"Well, let's hear it!" Finnick's always been shy around people like this.

"My love, you have my heart for all eternity. And if I die, in the arena, my last thought will be of your lips." I bet this must be for Annie. He looks a bit down but his interview is finishe shortly after. All I could think about was that poem though. It was beautiful..

"Have a good nights rest. Tomorrow, you will be in the arena. You need the energy." Lorain says and leaves shortly after. That night i just sit there with Finnick not saying anything since we both can't go to sleep. I get up and try say goodbye to Smiles.

"Hey...Smiles.... Goodbye. If I don't make it out the arena, you were the best friend I've had in a long time. So thank you...." I tell her. She smiles at me and we hug. I can tell she wants to say the same to me. I leave to go back to the room with a last thank you. "Just wanted to say goodbye ..." I say as I get back in bed with Finnick. "By the way, you're welcome." He says. He must be talking about the interviews.

"Yea. Sorry I didn't say thank you before. And your poem was beautiful, by the way...." I say.

"Oh...thanks." He looks at me with his deep sea green eyes. Wow, no wonder why Annie has a crush on him, his eyes are really something....

"Goodnight, O'dair." I say.

"Night, Trescott." He replied and rolls over to his side. Time to try and get a good sleep..
