Chapter 18

"Quick! Run! We need to get to high ground!" Finnick grabs my arm and we run. I don't know where, but we run and run and run.

"Ah!" Finnick gets pounced on and as fast as lightning I shoot an arrow at the dog and we run. With them following us.

First one

Then two

Then five.

The number of them keeps easing higher and higher

We finally hit a safe tree to climb. Fast. I get up there and pull Finnick up and we start climbing to the top quickly as possible. Shit! I exclaim as a dog grabs my backpack and pulls it down along with my bow. But we finally make it on the top of the tree.

That's when Cato comes along. He's in the other tree in front of us, throwing knives at us.

"Ow!" Finnick winces. "No..." I say. He almost falls but I help him stand ground. He then aims one at me, but misses. I get a knife of mine and shoot it at Cato, hiting his leg. He almost falls down but he holds onto a branch.

"Look! Those are tracker jackers! They sting you too much and you can die... " Finnick points out. Catos already being stung by them.

This is it. I'm done. I'm not just going to throw this at Cato, but the dogs. And the capital will see.

They'll see I'm not just another piece in their game, or society.

I get my knife out. I kiss Finnick. Just incase this doesn't work.

I straighten up. And give this one last shot. I throw my knife.

It hits the branch. Almost cutting it off. Cato grabs the knife and tries throwing it back at me.

He misses.

Entirely.

I get out another knife.

My last one.

This is my last shot.

I pick it up.

This is for my family.

To show the capital who I am.

This is for Stanley

Lavender

Sakhaia

My brother, Austin. Who died almost the same way I could now.

This is for Maggs

Lorain,

Smiles,

And

Finnick Odair.

I throw it. With all my strength. Finally, the branch falls down with Cato and lands, tracker jackers everywhere, dogs running away, and the canon going off with a now dead Cato on the ground.

"Finnick!" I say and hug him. My head in his chest waiting for it all to finally end.
