Pairing: Percy/Audrey
HOPE YOU ENJOY :) XXX
I’ve been a-waiting for you
And you’ve been a-waiting for me
Tell me that you’ll always be true
And you’ll be the only one for me
Audrey Green likes cream in her teas and the silk inside of coat pockets. She likes vintage clothes and Italian accents and shoes that make her look taller, woolen blankets and velvet curtains and watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s on her near-busted TV. She likes her job as a Healer at St. Mungos perhaps best of all.
She stands in the poky little bedroom she shares with Percy, and pulls on her lime green Healers robes. She ties her honey curls with a red silk ribbon and slips her small feet into her regulation trainers.
Percy sits on the crimson chintz armchair in the living room, reading the Daily Prophet. As Audrey approaches him, she notices the disgusted look on his face at what he reads.
“I wish you didn’t have to work tonight,” he mumbles, and she sees the sincere crestfallenness in his saltwater eyes.
“Yeah well, we’d be living on the streets if I didn’t, Perce,” she replies, and she smiles halfheartedly at him.
“True, true,” he replies, but his smile is genuine. Just three weeks prior, he quit his job at the Ministry. Audrey tries to make him see that he should visit his family, that they would be proud, but he is adamant.
“I have to get going,” she says, glancing at the clock on the wall. Percy tells her stories of a magnificent magical clock, with nine hands, each of them with a face on it. Instead of numbers, the clock has situations printed on it; ‘at work’, ‘travelling’, ‘home’, ‘mortal peril’. This clock in the living room of their flat in Muggle London is just ordinary, but she doesn’t need a clock to know that they are all in mortal peril. With each passing day, the battle against the Dark Lord grows stronger, more impossible. Audrey wishes she could fight with the group Percy tells her of, The Order of thePhoenix. But she knows that by looking after the patients at St. Mungo’s she is helping just as much.
She turns away from the clock and bends to kiss Percy goodbye. She doubles back when she notices that he is standing at the open window watching an owl grow smaller in the distance. He holds a scrap of parchment in his hands.
“What is it?” she asks, stepping towards him. He turns, his face pale, and hands her the parchment.
“The Dark Side has infiltrated Hogwarts.
Apparate directly into the Hogs Head if you want to help.
Oliver Wood”
The handwriting is scrawled, desperate. Audrey has no idea who Oliver Wood is. She peers cautiously at Percy, places a hand on his quivering shoulder.
“Percy? Please tell me,” she whispers, as though by speaking out loud Percy will crack and splinter like fragile glass.
“I can’t go,” he stammers, prying the note from Audrey’s fingers.
“What are you talking about?” she exclaims, shocked. “You have to, I’ll come too!”
Percy shakes his head vigorously at this.
“No!” he cries. “Neither of us are going. Besides, don’t you have to go to work?”
