It broke Thomas' heart as he saw Newt tries to run into the woods, tears streaming down his face. It hurts Thomas that he couldn't hold him, calm him down the way they used to.

He misses Newt. His soft blonde hair that Thomas was able to run his hands through. His hazel eyes, which he looked into and everything was alright in the world. His laugh was the most precious thing to Thomas, how the thing could light up the Glade's mood instantly.

"Subject A2. It's time to go." he hears someone behind him and he turns to see a WICKED officer impatiently tapping his feet.

"Can I not just have a couple more minutes?" he asks, softening his voice. He didn't want to leave Newt just yet.

"I'm sorry but no. Chancellor Paige has asked for you."

"But—"

"Let him stay. He isn't ready yet." he hears a woman say and he knew who it was.

The officer looked at Thomas once last time before leaving the room, unimpressed with Paige's actions.

"Who are we looking at then?" she asks as she takes a seat right next to him.

Thomas points at Newt on the screen, as he was incapable to say anything without crying and stumbling on his words. She nods as she smiles, realising who it is.

"Ah... Subject A5—"

"His name is Newt." Thomas interrupts her but regrets it afterwards as the smile drops of her face.

"Yes of course, Newt. Why does he look soo upset?"

"He knows... that I'm gone. I'm stuck here, while he's stuck in there." Thomas wimps as he saw the blonde boy fall on the floor, holding his leg in pain.

"Why me? Why take me at the worst possible time? You have cameras, you could see that we needed each other." he cries, hearing the boy's cries for Thomas on the screen.

"That's why. You needed each other. We put you in the Maze to see how your relationship with Newt would be like. You got too attached, Thomas. We didn't want that to happen again so we brought you back."

"Happen again? What do you mean?" Thomas asks, looking at her with his red eyes.

Ava's face went pale as she froze, regretting what has been said. She stood up as if she wanted to leave the room but Thomas stopped her by grabbing her wrist firmly.

"What did you mean about you knowing it would happen again?" Thomas cries as Ava picked up the phone.

"Play tape 1893 on the screen." she tells them before shaking Thomas' arm off and exiting the room, without another word.

The screens go black and Thomas was faced with the same memory that the boys had. The one with the ribbon.

"Let's make a pact."

"What kind of pact?"

"A pact that me and you keep these ribbons wrapped around our wrists... that way, we'll always be connected."

They knew... they knew everything. They know about the ribbon. They knew how much Thomas loved Newt and they were watched like all the other boys were.

Thomas didn't want to say it, but he thought that he was the favourite. The staff there adored Thomas, they admired what he did even if it was the smallest thing in the world.

"I thought I was different. But I guess not." he mutters to himself as all the computers shut down, the screens going black.

"No, no wait! Where did he go?" he yells at the officers, tapping on the screens.

"Thomas. It's time to go."

Thomas knew he was right. But he didn't want to leave Newt. Like their ribbons, they will always be connected.
