You knew just how much Yuri despised Jean-Jacques Leroy, or better known as JJ. You knew that Yuri couldn't stand to be in the same building, let along ice rink with the Canadian. You knew he thought of this man as more annoying than any other person he had ever met, which is saying something in the figure skating world.

So why the hell were you talking to him?

Yuri's face burned with rage at the sight of the two of you casually chatting while sitting in the deserted audience only hours before the competition. The skaters participating were taking their time to practice on the ice and Yuri could not take his eyes away from the scene across the rink from him. You were smiling and laughing with that idiot.

Clenching his hands by his sides, Yuri couldn't stop the harsh breaths escaping his mouth. His natural instinct had told him to go over and slam a pole against JJ's head, but he couldn't do that. You would have probably gotten angry.

"Your parents are ice dancing Olympic champions?" you asked in awe.

"Yes, my whole family skates. My younger brother and sister compete in the Junior Division as well," JJ replied cheerfully.

"That's so cool," you said. "And you have your own fashion brand, too, not to mention the variety of charities in Canada you're involved with."

"It's nothing," JJ insisted in a surprisingly humble manner. Perhaps he's only cocky when it comes to skating.

"No, come on. I see why your followers are so crazy now, no offense to Isabella."

"She's my biggest supporter and the only fan I ever notice out of the crowd. I love them all, but Isabella is the most special," he replied.

Yuri tied his shoes after he finished with his practice and slipped his skates off to give his feet some rest from them. It seemed that you hadn't looked over at him once since talking to JJ and Yuri couldn't bear to watch any longer. It was eating at him like a parasite that you were even sharing the same air with that Canadian monstrosity.

On the other hand, you saw no harm in speaking to JJ. He had sat down to rest and you initiated the conversation since Yuri wanted to be alone before he practiced to clear his thoughts. You weren't going to isolate yourself simply because Yuri wasn't around or wouldn't like you speaking to the competition. Besides, you had all the faith in the world that Yuri would be bringing home the gold.

But, typically, Yuri could never see it that way. In his mind, the person he cares for most besides his grandfather was in the sight of a hungry shark. He didn't even register his feet marching in your direction at the racing scenarios playing in his mind like a broken record. You looked up just in time to see the young man grip your wrist and pull you to your feet with the hand not holding his skates.

"Fuck off, JJ. Don't you have a fiance?" Yuri growled threateningly as you now stood behind him.

"Of course, Kid. We were only having a friendly chat," JJ responded, also rising to his feet to tower over both of you.

"I'm sure you were," Yuri mocked. "Stay away from my girlfriend or I'll kick your teeth down your throat."

Yuri tore you away and you were left to give JJ an apologetic smile and wave. He took you to the empty changing room where the other competitors wouldn't be returning for a bit longer. He let go of your hand and set his skates down, then turned to direct you with blatant fury written all over his face.

"Why were you talking to him?" Yuri barked.

You grinned and looped your arms around his torso. Yuri, not knowing what to do, let his arms rest at his sides. He didn't want your affection after what he witnessed but he would never be aggressive enough to push you away.

"I didn't want to bother you because I know you don't like to talk before you practice. I was bored and JJ sat next to me, so I started talking to him. It was better than doing nothing," you said.

"You know I hate him," Yuri gritted out.

"I do, but that doesn't mean I have to hate him. He's actually very nice when you get past his enormous ego," you replied.

"I won't. He annoys me more than Viktor and Yuri."

"Well, I won't agree with you. I like both of them too."

Yuri scowled. "Do you like everyone I hate?"

You tightened your arms around his petite waist. "Yeah, is that a problem?"

"It is when you have a beautiful girlfriend who can make anyone fall in love with her," he grumbled, finally putting his arms around you as if someone might show up and steal you at that moment.

"Aw, I'm flattered," you mused, "but there's only one person for me and he's the Russian Fairy right here."

Yuri groaned before gently bending down slightly to peck your lips. You giggled and stood on your toes to lay a kiss on his nose to which he blushed at. It was always easy to fluster him with your adorable displays of affection. It was especially worse when you did it in public and embarrassed him.

"So, do you feel confident that you're going to win?" you questioned.

"What the hell kind of question is that? Of course I'm going to win," Yuri retorted.

You chuckled. "I just want you to know that it's okay if you don't win. You have so many more years in your skating career and you have accomplished so much already."

"It's all or nothing for me," he responded earnestly.

"It seems like that now, but it's not. You will have many opportunities to win gold over and over, I promise you that."

"Do you--" Yuri hesitated with a troubled expression "--think you'll be there for it all?"

Your gaze softened at the insecurity oozing from his tone. If you had known simply talking to JJ would lead to something so different coming from Yuri, you wouldn't have done it. You knew what Yuri had been through to get where he was, but for him to be insecure about you possibly disappearing along the way never crossed your mind.

"I will, unless you come to the conclusion that you don't want me to," you answered sweetly.

"I won't, trust me. It's hard enough that I'm surrounded by these idiots when you can't make it for the practices, and not having you there at all would be torture," he replied.

"Awwww," you cooed and hugged Yuri with all your strength. "I love you too."

Yuri grumbled and not so reluctantly hugged you back with the feeling of security being in your arms. It was always you who gave him the extra confidence he needed to go out on the ice and perform to the best of his abilities.

He realized he may have overreacted in the situation with JJ, but how could he not? You were the only thing that came into his life that he wanted to be selfish with. To only have you to himself and give you anything and everything you wanted because that is just how much he loved you.
