You were out all day doing press events and interacting with the top skaters in place of the mysterious Otabek Altin. You took the place as more of a representative than a coach while he spent the day practicing at a private ice rink because everyone knew he didn't socialize, especially before the Grand Prix Final.
Barcelona, Spain is large and you felt like you had been away from Otabek for years. You hated people and socializing as much as he did, but this was a favor so he could have more time to practice in peace without being berated for interviews or pictures. You hadn't seen him since the morning and it was nearing six o'clock with the competitors heading to dinner. You just wanted to leave.
"Hey, (Y/N)!"
You held back a cringe as you let your hand drop from the exit door of the hotel and turned to the voice's owner and his lovely fiance.
"JJ, Isabella," you said monotonously, "what can I do for you?"
"Would you like to come to dinner with us? Otabek is invited as well," JJ offered with Isabella glued to his side.
"Nothing would make me happier than not doing that," you replied.
"Oh, come on! You and Otabek never hangout with anyone anymore. You're always off doing something alone," JJ complained. "Where is he anyway?"
You sighed, wanting to escape the situation as fast as possible and go outside to meet up with Otabek. When you opened your mouth to respond, said man appeared at your side and stared boredly at JJ and Isabella.
"We will have to decline. We have plans for the evening," Otabek stated and grasped your hand to lead you out of the hotel.
You smiled and followed him gratefully across the sidewalk and onto the curb where his motorcycle waited. You dug your feet into the ground to stop Otabek before he could get on the bike to turn him around so you could kiss him. You felt your lips against his, then let him go so you both could climb onto the motorcycle.
After strapping on your helmets, you wrapped your arms around Otabek's solid torso as he took off down the street. You breathed the fresh air and relaxed for the first time that day against his back as he drove you to an unnamed location.
It was only five minutes later when you arrived at one of Barcelona's famous landmarks, Montjuic Castle. There was no one in sight at that time as you and Otabek climbed off the motorcycle, discarded your helmets, and went into the castle. You didn't question your boyfriend as he dragged you through the building and up many spiral staircases until you reached the roof.
You only passed a couple of people on the way and it made you more excited for what Otabek had planned. In reality, he wasn't as cold and stoic as others perceived him to be; he was actually quite shy but polite nonetheless. It had become routine for him to do something for you after you took care of his responsibilities, and every time, you fell a little more in love with him.
You walked onto the abandoned rooftop and there was nothing but stone and the view of the city with a captivating sunset over the horizon--pink, blue, and orange hues lighting up the otherwise dull sky. You made it to the edge with your hands intertwined with Otabek's to soak in the experience.
"Isn't it weird to think that this is us, and we're here, together, right now? It doesn't even feel real sometimes, but at the same time, it's undeniable that this is happening," you muttered into the gentle wind.
"That is extremely random, but yes, I completely understand," Otabek replied. "And I'm glad it's happening."
"Me too," you said truthfully. "How did practice go today?"
"I think I have the routine down, but I don't know if it will be enough to beat the two Yuris."
You pivoted away from the view and faced Otabek. You brought your hands to his shoulders to make him give you his full attention.
"At least you won't come in last place."
Otabek laughed. "That's encouraging."
"Well, I'm not going to say you're going to win. We both know the competition is stiff, but you're still one of the best," you responded. "Anything can happen."
"Even me coming in last," he pointed out.
You glided your hands up to graze against the shaved part of his undercut hair. "Except for that."
"Again, very encouraging," he commented sarcastically.
"Hell, even if you do come in last, it will be the greatest defeat of your career, and y'know what they say--" you smirk "--when you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up. Or, rock bottom is the solid foundation--"
"Love, I get it," Otabek interjected. "You seem more nervous than I am."
"I'm not nervous at all," you insisted. "I just can't wait to see your new routine and witness people understand why you're rising up the ranks more and more. I don't care if you win or lose or break a record. What matters to me is that you enjoy this."
"You really want to be on vacation, don't you?"
"God, yes," you groaned. "I'm sorry, I just don't want to handle press and fans and obnoxious skaters for a while. I know it's selfish because this is about you and your career, but I'm tired."
Otabek wrapped his arms around you and pressed your chest to his. "It's not selfish. You're doing this for me because I hate doing all of that. I promise that me and you will go out after tomorrow to some exotic destination alone. No skating, no fans, just us."
"No," you moaned. "Let's watch Netflix with a pizza. That's all I ask."
Otabek couldn't stop grinning at your adorable behavior that he has loved for years. You had always been the one with him when travelling from Russia to Canada to America to Kazakhstan to train. You complained, that is very true, but you never left and never would abandon him. Each day he realized this, he fell more in love with you.
"Pizza and Netflix?" Otabek repeated.
"And lots of sleep. I don't want to get up at dawn ever again."
Otabek leaned down to connect your mouth with his for a moment before pulling away. "I can definitely get behind that."
You sighed at the image of snuggling in bed with Otabek with your favorite show playing and chowing down on pizza. You did hope for him to win, but you were ready to kick back without constantly worrying about basically managing Otabek's career. In truth, he was ready to lay around with you as well because he missed the lazy days, especially after this intense season.
No matter what happens tomorrow, you were determined to get what you wanted after the competition was over, not that your boyfriend was complaining.
