Mike
I open my eyes to find out that it's still dark outside. I stretch my arms and legs out, accidentally kicking El in the side.

She had a bad dream about Hawkins last night, and her PTSD got the best of her. So, she climbed in bed with me. I don't think my mom will mind.

El stirs in her sleep, making the cutest little grunting noise, as if telling me to let her sleep. But, today was Friday, and she started school two months ago, and unfortunately, we had to go today.

I look at the clock on top of my nightstand.

5:35 a.m.

My alarm is supposed to go off in ten minutes. Might as well get up now.

"El," I say as I shake her. "El, wake up."

She makes another cute grunting sound.

I chuckle.

"El, come on. We have school today."

She slowly opens her eyes, they're bloodshot from her crying the night before.

She rubs her eyes and frowns. "I don't want to go to school today, Mike."

"I know you don't, but we have to, or else your GPA will go down."

She looks confused.

I'm quick to explain this to her. "GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It's how well you're doing in school."

Her confused look disappears and she nods her head in understanding. She takes hold of my arms and I help her sit up. While I'm doing this, my super comm starts to buzz.

"Mike, Mike, do you copy?" Lucas says through the comm.

Lucas is usually still asleep at this time, so I'm a bit confused as to why he's calling me.

I set El down and pick up the super comm. She glares at the wall, still trying to wake up.

I press the button on the side of the super comm. "Yes, Lucas, I copy. Why aren't you sleeping? Over."

"We don't have school today! Over," Lucas says, obviously excited.

"What? Yeah, we do. Our three day weekend because of parent teacher conferences isn't until next week. Over."

"Look outside, dipshit. Over and out."

Lucas signs off of the super comm. I get up from my bed and race to the window. I pull back the long, blue curtains and open the blinds.

I gasp.

The whole front yard is covered in fluffy, white snow. The area is like a frosty wonderland. The trees have icicles hanging down from their branches, and the front yard looks like a million clouds pressed together.

I close the window and run back to El.

"El, we have a snow day! No school!" I say, getting overly exited because I had a huge science test today that I didn't study for.

"What's snow?" El says, curiosity filling her big, brown eyes.

"You've never seen sn-" I stop what I'm saying, remembering she'd been locked in a lab for the last twelve years of her life.

"Snow... it's this white fluffy stuff that falls out of the sky. It's really cold though, so you have to wear your coat when you go out to play in it," I say.

She didn't look tired anymore. Her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree and she smiled widely.

"Can we play in the snow, Mike?"
