I know the art has nothing to do with the chapter, but i love it.

Mike
"Michael! Eleven! Nancy! Come down here! Your father and I have something we want to discuss with you!"

What could my mother want? I groan and run down the stairs to get El.

I go into the basement and I pull back El's curtain on her fort, only to find her sound asleep on top of the covers with my Comm by her side.

I look at her and smile.

I lightly shake her shoulder. She stirs in her sleep.

"El?" I say. "El, wake up, my mom wants to tell us something."

She sits up slowly and half smiles. Even her half smiles are brighter than the sun.

"Okay, Mike."

I take her hand and help her up. We run up the stairs into the living room and sit down on the carpet. Nancy is on the couch behind El and I, my mom is holding Holly, and my dad is asleep in the lay-z-boy.

"Ted!" My mom smacks my dad on the side of his head.

My dad shoots up mid-snore. "What? What happened?"

El stifles a laugh.

"We have to tell the kids about...well, you know," says my mom, making strange hand gestures towards my dad.

"Oh yeah! Right, well, go on Karen, tell them."

My mom rolls her eyes.

"Anyway," she starts. "We are going to be taking a little trip."

Nancy groans.

"Are we going to visit Lonnie with the Byers in Indianapolis again? Because his house smells like dog shit and cheap sluts," she says.

"Language!" My father scolds.

El struggles to stifle another laugh. I smile again.

My mother rolls her eyes for the second time. "No Nancy, we're not going to Lonnie's. We are going to Hawaii."

I do a double take towards my mom. "Did you just say Hawaii?"

She smiles, obviously getting a kick out of my reaction. "Your father's boss was going to go, but a family matter came up and he gave the tickets to us. So, yes Mike, we're going to Hawaii."

Nancy squeals. I grin like an idiot and turn towards El.

She looks confused.

"What's...Ha-wi-i?" She says, pronouncing the tropical vacation spot in a funny way.

I laugh. "It's a pretty place, with lots of colors and sounds, and a big blue ocean with animals living in it. You'll love it."

Her eyes light up. "Pretty?" She asks.

I smirk. "Yeah. Really pretty."

My mom coughs.

I turn around, and I can tell my face is a deep crimson.

My mother smirks at me.

"We leave for the airport in two days. Go start packing your bags."

Nancy grabs El's hand and takes her upstairs to help her with her suitcase. I get up from my spot on the floor and make my way up to pack my own.

This should be interesting.
