All the blood drained from my face and I pressed myself to the back of the seat as he locked the doors and sped off.
"Carson, where're we going?" I shook.
He growled and his sloppy driving told he was partially drunk.
"Carson, you're going to get us in a wreck! Please, pull over!" I begged.
"Be quiet!" he screamed and I shrunk.
We drove for I don't know how long. I was tempted to bang on the windows and shout for help, but my fear for my brother outranked that idea.
He took me to a deserted area and stopped the car, climbing out and walking around to the side. He opened my door, grabbed my arm roughly, and literally dragged me out.
I struggled to stand as he dragged me down the dirt road but with the rocks and sticks scratching my legs and his fast pace and tight grip on my arm, it was no use.
He kept me kidnapped for two years. I was now 18 and I'd had no contact with anyone except Carson. I had an endless amount of scars, bruises, and wounds and he'd cut my hair to a pixie cut.
Currently, the two of us were out at the store. He didn't trust me to stay at the house by myself and when we went to the store, he kept a firm grip on my shoulder.
I heard a familiar giggle and a voice, making me look up.
Vanessa and Sebastian. No, it was too good to be true.
I glanced at my brother, who was loading the cart with soda and other things.
I looked back at my adoptive mother with a sudden burst of courage, screamed at the top of lungs, "VANESSA! HELP ME! IT'S JAELYN, PLEASE HELP ME!"
Vanessa's head shot up just as Carson shoved me into the shelf to hush me up.
He'd taken his hand off me so I took this chance to run.
I ran faster than I ever had to my adoptive mom's opened arms, my head buried into her shoulder as I shook and cried.
"You stay away from my daughter, you monster," she growled and I heard a grunt and then a thud.
"What's going on?" another voice asked. I looked up and saw a worker fast approaching.
"This man kidnapped my daughter," Vanessa said, holding me close.
"Security!" the worker shouted.
"Jae, I can't believe it's really you. I'm so glad you're ok," Vanessa said into my hair.
Sebastian began crying as well but I think it was from all the commotion and confusion.
"Seb, it's ok. It's me," I said, looking at my adoptive brother.
He stopped crying slowly and I realized how big he'd gotten.
"I have to call Lin," Vanessa said as several police men came down and arrested Carson.
"Does this girl have any relation to this man?" one asked Vanessa.
"He was her brother, but we adopted her two years ago," Vanessa explained to him as she put her phone to her ear.
"Alright, miss, tomorrow I'd like you to come down to the office to answer a few questions," the police man said and I nodded.
Vanessa set Sebastian down for a moment and the toddler grabbed onto my legs.
"He won't pick up. C'mon, let's go home. Jae, are you hurt anywhere?" she asked, checking me over.
"I think my wrist might be broken and my lower back is bleeding a bit last I checked," I said in a small voice.
"Let's get you to the hospital," she said, noticing my black eye and busted lip.
We made the quickest car ride ever to the hospital and the doctor bandaged my wrist as well as giving me pain meds for my broken ribs and mild concussion.
"Let's go home sweetie," she said softly, pulling me close as we walked back to the car.
We got home and I saw the apartment was empty.
"I'm so happy you're home," Vanessa said, suddenly putting Sebastian down and embracing me in a hug.
She was crying and I cried as well, happy to be safe again.
She made me dinner which I ate in about 2 minutes then she made me go shower.
When I walked back to the living room, I heard a tired voice say, "Vanessa? I'm home!"
I walked out of the hallway and Lin dropped all of the things he was carrying.
"Oh my goodness. Jaelyn!" he shouted and ran over, embracing me in a tight hug. He placed one hand on my head and the other on my back and I hugged him.
"You're back. I'm so happy you're back. Are you ok?" he asked, suddenly releasing me from his hug and looking me over.
"I'm fine, Vanessa already took me to the hospital," I said softly and tiredly.
"Oh thank goodness," he said and hugged me again.
"I tried calling you but you wouldn't pick up," Vanessa called from the kitchen.
"I was in the middle of the show," Lin called back.
Lin embraced me again and I hugged him, happy to be safe.
That night I had a hard time falling asleep, and when I finally did I was woken up by nightmares.
I barely slept at all that night.
The next morning, I got up earlier than my family and sat at the table in the kitchen, staring at my hands.
"Hey," a voice said and I jumped, turning around.
