I found the library easily which was pretty surprising, Sam was sitting on a chair that was built into the windowsill. There were groups of students dotted around reading and chatting quietly. "hey Sam, the view is amazing isn't it" I said, his eyes snapped to mine. "Yeah it really is, so do you want a tour?" he asked. "Yeah sure" I replied following him, I stopped to look into the music room as Sam stopped and put his head to the side. "You like music?" he asked, I looked over at him , his hair was flopped over his eye and his eyes sparkled. "Tommy? did you hear me?" he asked snapping me out of my trance.
"Oh yeah sorry yeah im into that kinda stuff, I actually play guitar" I answered. Sam smiled at me showing his perfect white teeth, "Oh cool maybe you can play me a song one day, now come on I want to show you the school grounds outside" he said running down the stairs. I chased him down the stairs and ran outside, the school grounds were beautiful. In the middle there was a small lake, more students sat in groups singing and listening to music.
Later that day.....
I was sitting on the step of the school entrance waiting for my mum to pick me up. My phone buzzed in my pocket, it was Adam. "Hey TJ, Hope school is ok, everyone is wondering where you are now. Tyler got suspended, I miss you and I need you more than you know right now." Oh crap that didn't sound good, I scrolled through my address book and clicked Adams number.
It went straight to answerphone, that was strange he always answered. I rang it a couple more times with no luck, My mums car pulled up in front of me as I grabbed my bag and climbed in the passenger side. "Hey mum" I said, "Hey baby, good day?" she asked smiling. "Yeah mum it was really good, can I ask you a big favour?" I questioned. "Sure what's up?" she answered.
"Can you please drop me at Adams house, there's something wrong with him and he's not answering his phone. I wont be home late I promise" I said. "Ok baby, bring him back to ours if he's too bad" she said pulling up outside. "Ok mum love you" I said climbing out and waving, I watched her drive away and knocked on the door.
His mum answered, "Oh Tommy thank goodness you're here" she said looking relived. "Why what's happened?" I asked stepping indoors, "I don't know Tommy, he's been locked in his room since lunch time. He wont speak to anyone, he just keeps crying I don't know what to do" she said. "Since lunch time? You mean he didn't go to school?" I questioned, "Well he did, but came home and said he was sick. He's been in his room since" She explained.
"Ok I'll see what I can do" I said heading upstairs, I stopped outside Adams room and listened to the muffled sobs from inside. I pushed open the door and looked inside, Adam was laying on his bed with his head buried in the pillow. His shoulders shook as he cried, "Adam what happened" I whispered. I've never seen him like this, I pulled the pillow from his head. He didn't look up and buried his head in his shirt instead.
"Adam please, talk to me tell me what's wrong" I said pulling the sleeve of his shirt so he had to look up. He looked like crap, his eyes were red and puffy, his nose was running and his eyeliner was smudged across his face. I handed him a tissue as he took it from me and wiped his nose, "So spill Mr" I said.
"Its over Tommy, everything is over" he said his voice husky and quiet. "What is?" I questioned, "Me and Sauli, he cheated on me. Tommy I cant be without him, however much I really want to hate him right now I cant because I love him Tommy" Adam said fresh tears sliding down his cheeks. "Look Adam you are an incredible person, if he cant see that its his loss. Look you're my best friend and I care about you. It kills me to see you like this, I know he was your first love and all that crap but it will get better" I said.
He sniffed and looked up at me through his eyelashes, they were all spikey from his tears. "Thanks Tommy, you're the best friend ever" he said. "Now do you want to come stay at mine, im thinking ben and jerry's, chocolate and velvet goldmine" I said. "I think that sounds amazing Tommy" he said, "well then go wash your face, I'll pack you some stuff and then we can get going" I said as he stood up and walked towards the bathroom.
I pulled out a bag and shoved some clothes in for him, I picked up his eyeliner, cologne and hairspray. His mum peered around the door, "how is he?" she asked. "Devastated and heartbroken but he will be ok" I said. "So what happened?" she asked, "Well basically Sauli cheated on him and now they have broken up he's crushed" I said. "Damn, I never liked that kid anyways" she said.
I laughed, "he's coming to mine for the night is that ok?" I questioned. "Yeah of course, if anyone can cheer him up its you. He thinks so much of you Tommy, more than you know" she said hugging me. Adam wandered back in, "hey mum" he said. "Hey babe, are you ok?" she asked. "I will be" he replied hugging her tightly, "Good have fun at Tommy's tonight" she said ruffling his hair. "Come on then lets go" I said heading downstairs, Adam followed quietly behind me he was still sniffing quietly.
It only took 5 minutes to get to mine, I only lived round the corner. I unlocked the door and called out to my mum, "Hey mum we are home" I said. "Hey babe, hey Adam are you ok?" she asked. He nodded as she smiled, "Lets go put your stuff upstairs" I said heading to my room.
Later that night...
Adam was curled up on the spare bed, snuffling quietly in his sleep. I heard the doorbell ring, Adam was dead to the world so I slid out of bed and padded downstairs. I opened the door and saw Sauil standing on my doorstep..
