I stood outside the room patiently waiting for the nurses to be done, as they all filed out I was allowed to go in. One was at the end of the bed filling out Adams paperwork, "so how is he?" I asked. "Better than he was, the swelling on his brain is starting to go down. As far as we know there's no more internal bleeding, he should be in the coma for a few more days. If he is ok after then we will take him out of it, that is if the swelling on his brain doesn't flare up again" she explained.
I smiled and sat down and watched Adam sleeping, he's been in a medically induced coma for 2 weeks now. It was Saturday today, Adams parents had been called into work so I came to visit instead. I sat watching him for hours, telling him about school and things. I don't think he can hear me but its nice to talk to him.
A few days later....
We were all sitting around the bed, the nurses were going to bring him out of his coma. The swelling on his brain had gone right down, I watched as the tube was replaced by a mask and he started to wake up. He looked around the room, he seemed confused as his parents took his hand and spoke to him.
I watched as he started to get agitated where he couldn't talk, he pulled the mask off and tried to sit up. He fell back down onto the pillow, "what happened? Where am I?" he asked his voice barely a whisper. "You got hit by a car Adam, you've been in a coma for two weeks" his mum explained. "I want to go home" he said trying to climb out of bed. He started to get really annoyed as the nurse stuck a needle in his arm and he calmed right down.
"People that were in a coma tend to get frustrated when they cant do things, that was a sedative to calm him down. He isn't going anywhere anytime soon and him stressing isn't any good for his recovery" a nurse explained to us all. We all nodded as Adam turned his face away from us all and stared out of the window...
