Food Week!

This week I'm going to be doing a chapter every day with a food that, scientifically and biologically, makes you happier. Unless I run out of food. I'm going to do more research, but I can think of three off the top of my head.

Anyway, today's food is: CHOCOLATE! You heard me right! Chocolate actually makes you happier!

Chocolate contains over 300 naturally occurring chemicals. This released neurotransmitters in your brain, producing chemicals including, but not limited to:

-phenylethylamine: sometimes called the "love drug". Causes alertness, a quickened heart beat, and arouses feelings similar to those you feel when you're in love.

-serotonin: causes relaxation and is a mood lifter.

There's also a fat contained in chocolate called anandamide. This fat activates a receptor that causes dopamine production. Dopamine causes feelings of intense well being that many associate with being high (but don't worry: you can't get high off of chocolate. You'd get sick first.)

And finally, chocolate straight up releases endorphins, which reduce stress and pain.

YAY FOR CHOCOLATE! Go find some chocolate to eat today.
