Honey is a sweet food that is a way healthier alternative to sugar, but that's only one of the things about it that's great.
Bring on the chemicals.
Honey contains kaempferol and quercetin, chemicals which reduce inflammation in the brain, thus helping prevent depression and anxiety. It also doesn't have as big of an effect on your blood sugar as many other sweet foods, so you would have that sugar crash.
Fun facts on both chemicals separately:
Kaempferol is a naturally occurring flavonoid that has actually been shown to maybe have anti-cancerous properties. So it's currently one of the top things being looked at as a possible cure for cancer!
Quercetin is also a flavonoid, but is actually a medicine you can take in pill form. (NOTE: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE QUERCETIN BASED OFF OF WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY PLEASE CONSULT A DOCTOR FIRST OR IF IT IS OVER THE COUNTER READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS. THANK YOU. Alternatively, eat honey.)
Quercetin is an anti-oxidant, which means it literally fights the oxidation process (which is what causes us to age). This makes it a super effective anti-inflammatory medicine that people use to prevent heart conditions and even improve athletic ability (SEE NOTE). Research in recent years has discovered that inflammation is the cause of most diseases--so anti-inflammatories are awesome.
One last fun fact about honey: if you have really bad allergies, try buying honey from local bees. If you have a spoonful every day for a few weeks, it helps your allergies out a TON (because the bees do the flower/pollen thing and then you eat them and science happens and you're resistant. I honestly forgot the details. If you're super interested, Google it and let me know). So the next time there's a Farmers' Market near you, go buy some honey.
Sorry if that was more than you're used to, haha, I got really excited.
