‘Hey, what gives?’ Lisa said as she approached us.
‘Hey Lisa…’ Jett acknowledged her but was looking at me at the same time as if I should acknowledge her too. Instead, I just ignored her and kept watching the practice basin.
Lisa knew straight away that I wasn’t talking to her – and why should I? I’ve tried endless times to apologize and make up and every time, she just snubs me, so, now it’s my turn to snub her!
‘Hi, Karris…’ Lisa said.
I just ignored her again.
‘So… feeling nervous?’ Lisa then asked, ‘I know I am!’ she’s trying really hard to make conversation.
I just turned around and blatantly came out with it, ‘what do you want, Lisa? Why now have you decided to talk to me? Is it because… hmmm… let’s see… you have no friends?’ I said sarcastically, making her feel bad.
‘Well, fine, be that way then.’ She replied quietly, ‘I just thought I would come over and wish you luck in the Individual Freestyle event. But, seems I was wrong to think you’d really care, so, let’s just say, ‘bad luck to you today! But remember, I’m up against you and I’m going to beat you in front of everyone and you’re going to look really stupid and dumb!’
‘Ahhh, bite me!’ I said back hastily.
Lisa turned around and walked off again.
‘That wasn’t very nice, Karris…’ Jett said
‘Well, you should hear what she says about me!’ I defended myself.
‘Don’t worry about her,’ Tracy said, ‘she’s just a sour-puss. I know you’ll beat her because she’ll be worried about you the whole time. All you have to do is worry about yourself and you will win!’
‘Hey, that’s really good adivce, Trace, thanks!’ I said feeling a bit more cheerful.
Before you know it, an announcement came over the speakers;
In 20 minutes, the girls Individual Freestyle event will get underway. If you are participating in that even, please make your way to Area B. I repeat, the girl’s Individual Freestyle event will take place in approximately 20 minutes. Please make your way to Area B. Thank you.
NOW, my heart was pounding really fast!
‘This is it!’ I said really nervously, ‘wish me luck!’ I just wish I had something extra to pull out of my arse for this one!’ I joked.
‘Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when I first met you outside of your Mum’s hairdressing salon?’ Jett asked me.
‘Yessss….’ I replied reluctantly.
‘And do you remember I said to you that I would show you the 'Jettpack' before Sally came around?’ he asked again.
‘Mmmm, yessss….’ Again, I reluctantly replied.
‘Well, now’s the time to show you. You can use it to win if you need to.’ Jett insisted. ‘C’mon! I’ll show you!’
Jett took hold of my hand and whisked me away to the edge of the basin where it was flat and he proceeded to teach me how to do his infamous ‘Jettpack’!
‘First, you start off with the board upside down then flipping it over with your toes. Then, you jump straight on and flip it on an angle so it actually spins sideways and…’
