We made our way around to the front of the building. Next to the clearly marked out Entry sign, was a glass cased noticeboard with plenty of notices to cover the whole board – none too recent either, mind you. We started reading the notices out aloud to each other
‘Need a brick paver?’ I mocked, laughing at the ad’s slogan, ‘just call ‘Ricky the Bricky, no job’s too tricky!’
‘Hey, you should call him!’ Lisa joked, ‘and ask him if that’s his real name!’
‘Yeah, right!’ I said back sarcastically, ‘Hi… is this Ricky the Bricky?’
‘Or how about this one?’ I said immediately spotting the ad, ‘FOR SALE: Skateboard Titanium $500 ono’ ‘Five hundred dollars?!’ I disputed, ‘No, way!’
‘Ohhhhh, check this one out…’ Lisa said empathetically.
I looked over to her notice as she began to read it out, ‘REWARD FOR LOST DOG: $250 reward for finding my best friend. You will recognize him instantly as he only has three legs. He is black in colour with a pure white star on is chest… and he answers to the name, ‘Tripod’. And below that was a photo of Tripod.
We stood there in a moment’s silence, hoping this person will find his best friend, when I saw a bright orange piece of paper, stuck in behind someone else’s business card.
‘Hey look!’ I pointed it out to Lisa, ‘That must be it! What Danny was talking about.’
Lisa took a closer look and started to read it out aloud, but by then, I had already skimmed over it.
‘Is that recent?’ I asked.
‘Yeah, it seems so.’ Lisa replied, ‘but it’s a bit hard to tell because someone stuck their crappy business card on top of it so we can’t read the date. It’s a pity the cabinet doors are locked and the reflection of the sun on the glass doesn’t help very much, either… we’ll have to go and get the key to open it so we can find out.
I pressed my face up against the glass, shading the side of my eyes from the reflection, trying to get a better look at what it says. I started reading it aloud;

Can you believe it? I can’t even read the most vital bits of information because it has rudely been covered up!
‘Yarris Park?’ I exclaimed, ‘That’s where I’ve just moved from! That’s my home town!... Man!… I just have to enter this competition!’ I paused for a moment in deep thought, ‘When is it?’ I had to have another read of it. ‘Ohhh, I cant’ see… it doesn’t say… well, it does, but that stupid business card is covering it.’ I said impatiently. ‘I wonder if we can break into it?’ I suggested, trying to move the glass out of its runners. I was merely fishing for a reaction from Lisa, I wasn’t really going to break into it… ‘LISA!?’ I called out, ‘I wasn’t really going to break into it!’
