I looked up at the clock.  ‘God!  Is that that time?’ I exclaimed as I slammed my pen down on the desk having completed the form, ‘I have to go home!  I’m already in so much trouble!  Thanks!’ I said hurriedly to the Grandma.

‘You’re welcome!’ the Grandma replied, collecting the paperwork off the desk.  I just bolted out the door, dropped my skateboard on the ground and took off full throttle, for home.  I had to go back the way I came – past Danny and his gang!

I skated past their hangout as quick as I could, hoping they wouldn’t notice me – but what I couldn’t help notice… was them!  It was Lisa, sitting down, talking to one of them… Liam!  What was she up to?  She’s not smoking, is she?

I cruised past slowly, looking at her the same way she was looking at me… glaring, part of us wanted to make up, but the better part of us had the stubborn streak that wouldn’t let us.

‘Hey, isn’t that your friend?’ I heard Liam ask her.

Was my friend.’ I overheard her mean reply.

My face blushed and overheated – you know, that feeling you get when you know that everybody is talking about you behind your back… well, that was how I was feeling right about now.

‘Hey, Karris!’ I didn’t want to look up so I pretended that the music was too loud and that I didn’t hear him.  ‘Karris!’ I really couldn’t resist that fact that Danny was calling out to me.  I stopped and looked at him with a faint smile.

‘Don’t you have any other music to listen to other than Eminem?’ I asked jokingly.

Danny looked at me puzzled, puffing slightly as he had leapt up to the top of the landing to catch me.  ‘Well, we also break it up to Rihanna and 50cent,’ he smiled, ‘is that more you scene?

I looked at him and shook my head, not disapprovingly, but in a gesture to call him a Loser!  Besides, I wasn’t really asking a question, it was more of a statement as if to make short talk to take the heat off me!

‘Why, don’t you like it?’ he asked.

‘No… I didn’t say that… I actually really like Eminem,’ I replied.

It fell silent for a moment.  ‘So, where are you going so fast anyway?’ he asked.

‘Well…’ I had to think of something real quick – other than ‘going home’, ‘I’m just on my way to…’ I stumbled over my words.

‘To meet me!’ came a familiar and oh, so welcomed voice from behind me.

I turned around, and there to save my life, yet again, was Jett!  Oh, my knight in shining armour!

‘Are they giving you a hard time?’ Jett asked me as a concerned friend.  Oh, man!  All I wanted to do was run up and jump into his big, strong arms and kiss him all over his face!  But… control… breathe…control yourself, Kaz… if it wasn’t for his friends on their BMX’s being there with him, I probably would have!

I looked back to Danny who seemed to be sticking his chest out slightly like a Gorilla in a pack, then I looked back at Jett, who also was sticking his chest out – then I realised… it was on for young and old!

‘No!’  I said quickly before the gorillas were in amidst!  ‘He… Danny… had just told me about the Yarris Park Gravity Defying Skateboard Comp being held next weekend...’ I stood silently, then added, ‘and I’m – we (referring to Lisa) are entering… or, have already entered… if you like…’
