Smack!
"YOU MORON!" Carrie screamed, tears running down her face, she glared with a fearful anger at the stunned Ryan, who had just returned home from his investigation.
"mm sorry," Ryan mumbled apologetically. Carrie slapped him in the face again.
"YOU WENT TO A RESTAURANT REGULARLY FILLED WITH THUGS," Carrie yelled, "AND. YOU. WERE. INTOXICATED!!! YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!"
"mm sorry," Ryan muttered again. Carrie stared at him with bloodshot eyes.
"You said you wouldn't get sucked into this case," Carrie stated with hurt, "then you turn around and let it get to your head; it bothered you so much that you began drinking way too much!"
Ryan hung his head in shame.
"Why didn't you talk to me?" Carrie cried in confusion, she lightly shoved Ryan, "You are supposed to talk to me when cases get you down...that was the deal...it helped you and it made me feel comfortable with your mental state.."
Ryan lifted his head, with teary eyes, looked at his wife, "I'm sorry...I should have talked to you..."
Ryan wobbled over to Carrie and hugged her, she hugged him back as they both sniffed up their runny noses.
"Richard told me everything," Carrie stated, still embracing him, "but I want to hear you tell me, plus I imagine there is more information now."
Ryan nodded in agreement, they let go of each other and walked over to the living room.
"Is Richard still here?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah, he is asleep in the extra room," Carrie answered, "So let's start from the beginning: you find Cole Braxton dead."
Then for the next hour, Ryan explained his findings, including the crazed doctor and what he learned at the restaurant.
"Okay, I'm going to think about all of that," Carrie stated with a straight face, "It's late, and I need to think about it."
"Talk about it tomorrow night?" Ryan proposed, Carrie nodded back with a smile. Ryan sighed in exhaustion; he couldn't even make it to his bed, he fell asleep on the couch.
When he woke up, he saw that his phone had a message. Ryan opened the text to see what it said.
"Report to the Office ASAP" Ryan read, it was from his boss, Ryan sighed, Richard must have told her what happened.
"Carrie! I'll be back soon!" Ryan shouted, he did not get a reply, he assumed she was still sleeping, it was Sunday, she could sleep in. Ryan hopped into his car, clutched his head momentarily, he had a painful headache, must be from how much he drank the previous day.
He arrived at his workplace, he sheepishly walked inside and entered the head office. Awaiting him was his boss, a middle aged woman, who looked into Ryan's eyes and gave him a disapproving look.
Ryan said sheepishly, "look...I'm so-"
"I don't care Mr. Hughes," she replied sternly, "do you realize what you've done? Or what could have happened?"
Ryan remained silent.
"You went investigating while drunk," she continued shaking her head, "Reckless...childish...asking for trouble!"
"I'm sorry," Ryan apologized, "This case has been-"
"What case?" the woman said angrily, "You aren't working on a case, you are merely trying to figure out your own little riddle."
Ryan remembered, it wasn't an official case, he merely began investigating because he thought that Cole Braxton's note was odd. Richard, on the other hand, had an actual case, finding a lost person.
