Y/N POV
Planting sugar cane is hard work. My family, myself, Camila, Dinah, Lauren, Lacey, and Luke have been working since seven this morning trying to plant our sugar cane. The reason why planting sugar is so hard is because you have to plant the stalks by hand. So the more hands you have the more work you can get done. My grandma colmed us breakfast, lunch, and she's hooking us up with dinner later on.
As for Normani and I, we don't talk anymore. Her father hates me and I don't want to get on that man's bad side. But I haven't been lonely these pass couple of weeks. I have a few girls that I've been spending some time with. Ally and I have hung out a few times but I keep a close eye on her because I never know what's up to.
"Y/N how in the hell do you do this?" Lacey asked.
"Lacey I've been planting sugar cane since I was Luke's age. My grandpa showed me how it's done and I've been doing it ever since." I said.
"Your grandpa sounds like a great man." Lacey said.
"He was, I miss him a lot." I said.
"You know our other grandparents are having a cookout this weekend. If you're not busy taking one of your girlfriends on a date you should come." Lacey said.
"No I'm good. My grandma is having a cookout Saturday and I promised her that I would be here." I said.
"How come you never want to meet your other grandparents?" Lacey asked.
"You know why. The minute they see me they're going to ask where did the black girl come from. I'm dad's little bastard child so they're going to automatically treat me like shit. I'd rather not go through that." I said.
"I can assure you that they're not like that." Lacey said,
"I'm sorry Lacey but I'm just not interested."
"Alright everybody pack it up, let's call it day!" Uncle Ralph shouted.
That's the best thing I heard all day. I wiped the dirt off my jeans and took off my sunglasses. The girls and I started walking from the field towards the house. Luke walked up to me and asked if I would give him a piggyback ride to the house, the things you do for family.
"Did you have fun working in the fields today buddy?" I asked.
"Yeah. But I wish grandpa was here to help us." Luke said.
"I miss him too buddy. But grandpa is watching over us making sure that we do a good job." I said.
"Kinda like an angel, right?" Luke asked.
"Yeah just like an angel." I said.
"What happened to the pretty chocolate angel that you used to hang out with?" Luke asked.
"Haha he got you good on that one Y/N." Dinah said.
"Her name is Normani and we don't talk anymore." I said.
"Why not? I liked Normani, she's so pretty and she likes chicken wings. If I was older I'd make her wifey." Luke said.
"Little boy you are too young to be thinking about wifing somebody up. And the reason we don't talk is because her daddy doesn't like me." I said.
Since there was a lot of dirt caked on our shoes we stopped at the water hose to rinse them off.
"You're not dating her daddy Y/N, you're dating her. Don't let the old guy stop you from dating your dreamgirl. Man up cuz!" Luke yelled.
