Y/N's POV

Dinner with my girlfriend's parents, I'm so excited, I can barely contain my joy. I'd rather get my teeth pulled without anesthesia instead of having to sit through dinner with Mr. Hamilton. Hopefully this dinner will show Mani's dad that I'm a good family and that I make his daughter happy. You have to dress to impress so I traded in my sneakers for a pair of Sperrys tonight. Put on my cardigan and rolled up the sleeves because since I've got this dumb cast on my arm long sleeve shirts aren't working in my favor at the moment.

I went downstairs and my dad was in the kitchen preparing the garden bread.

"It smells good in here." I said.

"Thank you. That would be your mom's lasagna you smell in the oven." Dad said.

"Nice. Do you need help with anything?" I asked.

"If you're up to it you can make the salad." Dad said.

I got the stuff out the refrigerator for the salad and took a seat at the counter. I washed off the vegetables and began cutting them. My dad was leaning against the counter texting on his cellphone. I wondered what had my dad smiling so hard.

"Dad can I ask you a question?" I asked.

"Ask away sweetheart." Dad said.

"What's the deal with you and my mom?" I asked.

"Nothing were just two people trying to be the best parents we can be to our daughter, that's it." Dad said.

"Dad I ain't stupid. When I was in the hospital I overheard you and mom talking about your feelings for each other. Lately you and her have spending a lot of time together when I'm not around and I know that she's spent the night a few times. So if you're going to tell me something dad, tell me something real." I said.

My dad put his phone in his pocket and took a seat next to me at the counter. "Okay your mother and I have been seeing each other. We didn't want to tell you right away because you were going through a tough time. Your mom doesn't want to make things official until my divorce is finalized and I respect that." Dad said.

"Was that so hard to say dad?" I asked.

"No it wasn't." Dad said.

"I like you and mom being together. It's like I get to have a real family. As long as you guys make each other happy I'm cool with it." I said.

"You have no idea how good it feels to hear you say that." Dad said.

"So dad, what are your intentions with my mother?" I asked.

"Y/N I'm your dad. You really don't need to ask me that." Dad said.

"Actually I do. I love my mother dearly and I don't want her getting her heart broken. So I need to know what you plan on doing with my mother." I said.

"I plan on making your mother the happiest world. If things go well between us is like to marry Lily." Dad said.

"The day that happens you better ask her father for his blessing then you have to come to me and I have to give you my blessing." I said.

"That is no problem at all Y/N." Dad said.

I heard the front door open so I figured that it was Lacey or Ella coming to pay us a visit. But my mom came into the kitchen and gave me a hug. "How are you feeling today Y/N?" Mom asked.

"Pretty good. I'll be even better once I get this cast off." I said.

"A two more weeks Y/N." Mom said.
