Intelligent Eyes

John's PoV:

The Christmas holidays are over; yay. I'm not sure whether home or school is worse. Dad is convinced I'm gay, which sucks cause I'm really gay but I can't tell him - he'd kick me out.

I meet my friends Laf and Herc outside our registration room. They totally like each other.

"BAHAHA NO!" Lafayette is saying as I drop into the conversation, "you need to stop 'fucking le horses' mon ami."

"Woah, did I miss something big?" I ask.

"I'm kidding, Laf." Herc rolls his eyes skyward, "Jefferson's the only one desperate enough to fuck horses."

"Damned piece of uncooked pasta." I spit.

The others burst out laughing. I smile, feeling at home with them at last.

Our tutor turns up 10 minutes late as usual.

"Did you revise?" I mutter to my mates.

"Presque." Laf says with a wink.

"Translation?" Poor Hercules doesn't speak French.

"Almost." I translate, smirking.

Our tutor does the register then stands while she still has our attention. "We have a new student from the Caribbean;" she begins, "Alexander Hamilton."

I turn my attention to the short guy next to her. My breathe hitches and I tell my heart to slow down. Hot damn. His eyes. They're full of pain and knowledge, like a swirling ocean and more years that he's lived. In only a few seconds I can see that he's carrying many burdens and he has as much knowledge as the school library.

Oh shit I'm staring. And he's staring back....

"Mom ami, as tu un crush?" Lafayette elbows me and I mutter some unflattering things about him.

So I trudge to my first lesson and my lovely brain won't let my think about anything other than Alexander Hamilton.

We get to biology and Alex has no where to sit. I'm not throwing away this shot.

"Yo! Alex! There's a free seat here!"

Alexander smiles - the first time I've seen him do so. His face is so much cuter when he's smiling.

He takes the empty stool next to me, but out of my peripheral vision I see Laf murmur something to Hercules.

I clear my throat and introduce Alex to the (obviously) lovers.

"rIGHT CLASS" Mr Washington calls. Today we're looking at onion cells-"

"Again." Hercules growls.

"-again." Washington sighs.

Five minutes till the bell he announces that we have homework.

"You'll be working in pairs-" but the moment those words left his mouth, everyone started partnering themselves up with their eyes.

Lafayette and Herc practically grabbed each other. I ship it like hell but I feel kinda left out...

"Hey...can you work with me?" Alex asks.

"Sure!" I can't believe my luck.

His gorgeous eyes light up and a smile works it's way onto his lips. Oh god, his lips.

"You're on, freckles."

Alex's PoV:

"Freckles?" John's face screws up adorably.

I snigger and nod. Little does he know I'm trying very hard not to be a mess in front of him.

"AhahahaHA tu l'aime, John." Lafayette is my new favourite person. He fucked up our onion experiment so badly my sides ache from laughing. I'm glad I'm fluent in French though, cause his comments are hilarious.

John blushes furiously. "Laf, seriously where are you getting that idea from?"

"What idea???" Herc was looking at the ceiling in confusion.

"Is that clear?" Mr Washington finishes. Oh shit - I missed the task.

"Wait, what are we doing?" Hercules asks.

Washington slaps his palm on his forehead. He is so done.

"You're making a PowerPoint on stem cells." He says through gritted teeth.

The bell screams at us; break time.

"Hey, freckles, where do we go..." I trail off when I see John's beautiful freckles and warm brown eyes looking at me.

"You're funny." He says, not taking his eyes off mine.

"Ahh il y a l'amour dans l'air." A certain frenchfry interrupts.

"Baise toi, Lafayette." John's face is furiously red, although I bet mine is too.

Herc looks at me questioningly. He has no idea what's going on.

"Laf said 'ah there is love in the air', and John replied with the most useful phrase you'll ever need in French." I translate.

"Which is?"

"Fuck you."
