"Ben I'm nervous!" I felt warm and uneasy.

"It's ok Elizabeth, it's perfectly safe," he said crouching down next to my chair.

"Getting a needle stuck into my arm and injected with something that I don't know how I'm going to be changed afterwards? Sounds pretty safe!" I had a hint of sarcasm in my voice

"Okay, when you put it that way it sounds risky but you'll be okay," he paused, thinking for a second,"there's something that my older sisters and I used to do to calm our nerves whenever we were nervous. It may sound silly and ridiculous but repeat after me: Omg it's blue."

"Omg its blue," I repeated.

"Sprinkle some fairy dust!" He said standing up and waving his hands to give the illusion of twinkling fairy dust. I cracked up at him, an adult doing something so silly and childish; it was hilarious.

"Come on say it with me," he said grabbing my hand and pulling me up from the chair.

"Omg its blue, sprinkle some fairy dust!" We said in unison, dancing around the room until we were laughing so much that we couldn't speak and we're on the floor crying. I heard the door open and we stopped laughing and looked at the door. An older Protector had come in holding a tube with a blue liquid in it.

"Okay kids it time. Let's just get this over with," she said in an almost too sweet voice. I got back I my chair and Ben leaned against the wall. She came over to me with a needle and the tube of blue liquid.

"You'll only feel a quick prick dear and then you just sit and relax," she said as she extended her arm to poke the needle into my arm. I pulled my arm away at the last second and hugged it to my chest like a little kid.

"Can we have a minute?" I heard someone say but I didn't bother to think about who it was, my eyes hadn't left the needle since the slightly older woman took it out of the package. She set the needle down on the table and left the room. I was still looking at the needle even though I knew it could do nothing to me while it was sitting on the table.

"Elizabeth look at me," the voice was Ben's. Of course who else would be in the room. He put his hand on my cheek and gently turned my head toward him. I looked into his blue eyes staring down at me,"You're okay, there's nothing to be scared of."

"I know but, and I know this might sound childish, I've always had a fear of needles. Ethan is fine with them, he just gets it done and over with. But me? I can't, I just can't."

"Just repeat after me: omg it's blue, sprinkle some fairy dust," I started repeating it over and over again. But when he went for the door I looked back at the table with fear in my eyes. He noticed and came back, crouching down next to me.

"Elizabeth we have to do this. Would you feel better if I did it?"

I nodded my head slowly processing his words. He took the needle off the table and came over to me.

"Its laced with a sedative, most people are knocked out by the gemstiten itself but some people can stay conscious. Your body can adjust to the change while its resting better than if you're up and moving. You'll probably be knocked out for the rest of the day," he explained. I hadn't taken my eyes off the needle since he had picked it up again,"Hey, Elizabeth, look at me. Just don't look at the needle."

I nodded my head and closed my eyes as I felt him push up my sleeve and the needle prick my upper arm. I winced at the pain but didn't pull my arm away.

"All done. I'll be here when you wake up," I heard him say but his voice became muddy at the end and my vision began to blur.

I slowly drifted off into blackness.
