Rocky made his way back to the alleyway, he knew what would happen if he didn't. Someone else would come trying to find shelter, and take his shelter. He couldn't let that happen, he couldn't. Especially with winter coming, and the dog catchers getting a lot more persistent on finding him.

He noticed a small figure backing away from him and trying to run away.

He chased after them and growled, "Stay out of my alley!" He growled, trying to be menacing. He succeeded in scaring the figure, but then he heard a voice. "

"Please don't hurt me!" He heard a high pitched voice squeel

He instantly felt sorry, he had done something he hated. So he quickly dropped the menacing look.

"Sorry, umm... so, are you all alone? Don't you have a pack or family?" Rocky asked.

"Wait... you aren't going to try and eat me?" the little figure asked.

"No! Of course not!" Rocky said, horrified at the thought of eating another dog. Or eating any living thing for that matter.

"Thank you, I just don't want to end up like my friend before.." She said.

"Wait... you mean?" Rocky asked.

"Yes... They were eaten..." The little pup said.

"Oh, you poor pup..." He said and took a step toward her, she flinched back.

"No... don't worry, I won't hurt you." Rocky said.

"I'm sorry... I'll go now..." The little pup said and started to walk out of the alley.

"No! I've been surviving these streets long enough to know that you need someone there to protect you, you're just a pup!" Rocky stopped her.

"Wait... please... tell me you aren't going to..." The pup said in fear.

"Going to what?" Rocky asked.

"Well... It's just that most males I meet just want me for..." The pup said.

"Huh?" Rocky was confused and then he understood. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me. The wonderful people of New York City eh?" Rocky said disappointedly.

"It's not everybody..." The pup defended.

"I know... I've just had far too many bad memories in this city. Some much worse than others. I can't believe that someone would try to do that to some little helpless pup." Rocky growled and glared up at the skyline.

"So, what were some of your 'bad experiences'?" The pup asked.

"I'll tell you some day." Rocky said.

"Wait, what do you mean 'some day'?" The pup asked.

"I mean. You're staying with me. Got it?" Rocky asked.

"Oh, thank you! How can I repay you?" She asked.

"Stay safe, and stay here." Rocky said.

"What's your name?" She asked.

"I'm Rocky, and what's yours?" Rocky responded.

"My names Skye." She answered.

"Well... I want you to remember this always." Rocky said.

"Remember what?" Skye asked.

"That until I die, I will protect us. Okay? I lost my family in these streets, I won't find them, but I will always find you. And I will always protect you until I die, because I don't want to lose you, because, as of now. You are my family. Got it?" Rocky said.
