~Quinn's P.o.V.~
I tossed about still half asleep, not wanting to fully wake up quite yet. I knew as soon as I stepped out of bed my mother would hand me a list of chores to do a mile long. I struggled to get comfortable under my comforter just as I heard my mom holler from downstairs.
"Quinn Marie Hall! Get you ass out of bed before I send Everett up with a bucket of ice water! I will not have you being late on your first day at a new school." I swear, that woman's voice could be heard through a soundproof wall.
"I'm up! I'm up! I swear!" I grumbled as I made my way across the floor of the attic throwing on a sweatshirt and muddy pair of boots. My wolf was just as upset by mornings as I was. Before clamoring down the ladder to muck Cinder's, my horse's, stall, I made my way over to the only window, that was letting in a soft glow from the sunrise. Moving to Oregon had it's perks, and sunrise and sunset were defiantly two of them.
I gave my mother a kiss before heading out to the stables. When my family decided to move our pack to Oregon, where there were more humans than werewolves, at least they chose to stay in the country, and not move to the middle of a city like Portland or Salem. My father was alpha of the Fire Crest Pack. He had met my mother while traveling around the country, in search of a rouge, who had been terrorizing his pack. After finding and killing the rouge, he returned for my mom and made her Luna. Other than a few minor battles, our pack was very peaceful and chose to remain that way. We no longer wanted to fight to keep our land down in Arizona, so we packed up everyone who was willing, and moved up into the Willamette Valley.
I finished mucking out the stall in no time, and disposed of the stale, soiled hay. I went back in the house and took a long shower. My wolf was giddy, but I wasn't sure why. I dried off and put on one of my favorite outfits: a red, western shirt, a pair of Levi jeans, a leather belt with a belt buckle that showed a bull skull on top of small turquoise pebbles, and a pair of Ariat cowboy boots. As a finishing touch, I added my favorite necklace that had been passed down to me from my grandmother. It was simple, a Celtic knot on a plain chain, but it meant the world to me. She gave it to me on the day of my 16th birthday, the day I was supposed to meet my mate. But that never happened. I let my auburn-ish, brown-ish hair fall in gentle waves against my back, and applied very light makeup. Mascara and a little bit of cover-up. I could smell the bacon being friend downstairs, so with one last glance in the mirror, I headed down to the "war zone."
"Hey!! I called dibs on that peice!" My younger brother Will was the first voice screeching I heard.
"Did not! Besides, Im older!" Now it was Everett's turn to yell back. He was the oldest, and therefore the next destined alpha.
As they were arguing, I snuck a peice of bacon and toast off of each of their plates and grabbed my book bag from the shelf in the hall.
"Bye mom! Bye dad! Love you!" I sent through the packlink. Even with advanced hearing, there was almost no way they would have heard me over the ruckus the boys were causing.
"Bye Quinn! Make good choices!" They both sent at the same time. I laughed to myself, you could tell they were true mates.
I hopped in my pick up truck and turned on the radio. Immediatly one of my favorite songs came on, Wildflower, by the JaneDear Girls.
I was born off an old dirt road
40 acre farm
No highway, No interstate
And I drive an old rusted out Chevrolet
The boys all rubberneck
While they out makin hay...
I sang along to the rest of that song as well as a few others on the 15 minute drive to school. I was going to Crater High School. As I drove through town, I got my first good look at it. I had fallen asleep on the move here when we passed through before. It was small, and fairly easy to get around in. I could get used to it here. From the looks of it, it seemed I wasnt the only country girl in this town. All around you could see pick ups covered in mud and people walking around in boots.
I reached the school and parked in an empty spot up front.
'Well here goes nothing" I told Cayenne, my wolf. She just nodded in agreement.
I cut the engine and stepped out, all eyes were on me. I wasn't used to that. I mean, I have some nice curves but I'm not perfectly skinny, either. I have some extra weight to spare around my mid section. I made my way over to my bestfriend Nicole and the rest of my pack who was attending here, too. We have a relatively small pack, so there were only about 9 of us total, including me. Bentley and Hannah were mates, and so were Chris and Nicole. Beau, Clayton, Emma, and her brother Devyn, made up the rest of the group. We all had a suspion that Beau and Emma were mates, but she wasn't 16 untill next month.
I told them all hi, and we talked for awhile before I left to go pick up my schedule. I entered the building and began the hunt for the office. After asking a few people, and getting a few wolf whistles, I finally turned down the right hall. Just when I was about to sigh in relief, I caught the slightest scent that sent my wolf over the edge.
"Mate!! Let's go! Go get mate!" Cayenne squealed excitedly.
I was about to turn and track the source of the mouthwatering smell, but as quickly as I caught it, it was gone.
